I noticed on Twitter the other night that loads of Arsenal fans were following him.I felt sorry for him opening his timeline to find hundreds of new followers begging him to join Arsenal.

I'm sure if Wenger wanted M'Vila he'd have him by now. Don't forget how well connected he is in France to all sorts of people in and around football, be it journalists or managers, they can obviously pass on useful information to him regarding players mentalities and what not.

I think most coaches are worried they may be buying another Balotelli.(amazingly talented but could be a liability)

Wenger's track record with these sorts of players (RVP, Anelka etc..) is good though.

I don't know... M'Vila's lengthiest drop from the team has been because of a breach of curfew. He's been great the previous 2 seasons, and has still quite a few appearances this season. Even if he becomes a problem for us a few seasons down the road, we can still get a few good seasons out of him.

Arsenal is a good jump from Rennes anyway...

Am I the only one that has concerns about us buying Villa? I'm really surprised at the amount of people wanting him. Given his age and given that he is a very similar type of player to Torres, why is everybody so certain he will be an upgrade?

One of the best strikers of the last 20 years. Nope, I have no concerns at all.

Even Villa at 80% is better than what we have.

Actually his run in the team that year was the last time that we put 4 clean sheets in a row together. The debacle against Newcastle only started after he was taken off injured in the 48th minute, when we were 4-0 up.

What was quite interesting that year was the games he spent on the bench. Our record while he was on the bench was played 8, won 2, drawn 2, lost 4.

See the record for yourself - http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/johan-djourou/leistungsdaten/spieler_34561_2010.html

I'm sorry, but that second statement is utterly crazy. Giroud has scored 10 goals and had 8 assists this year (and Walcott has several more playing at striker) . Are you saying that you expect Villa to replace Giroud and score 40 goals and make 32 assists in the remainder of the season?

I just want to laugh at myself at this point. I first read that and somehow made the leap in my head that this was 20% however.

For the record, he would need to score about 13 goals and add about 6 assists to be better than our combined strikeforce in the PL. Is that what you expect him to do?

Johan Djourou's confidence was shattered after Wenger played him as a right back for most of the 11-12 season. He got torn apart by Man Utd and had to be taken off at half-time as the crowd started to turn on him. More great management from Wenger.

I agree with you there, he has a an aura about him in which his players give him massive amounts of respect.

All though one thing that worries me, is with what gent says here

To me, that sounds like some one who is sulking because he isn't getting his own way, possibly not getting a summer move to a big club that showed interest in the past, he possibly felt that Rennes stood in his way of making a move so has become rebellious. What happens further down the line when we'd inevitably let him get into the final year of his contract? We all know how that story goes. Another thing is that he is nearing 23 years of age now, and he still hasn't become much of a mature person, I personally think he is too big of a gamble, and not worth the hassle. Yes he's talented, but I think we should be looking for a safer alternative.

    Giroud has 9 goals.

Secondly, while that seems good, it is slightly deceptive. 4 of those goals came in 2 games, two against Fulham, and two against Newcastle. In fact, before he scored those 2 goals against Newcastle, He hadn't scored since mid-November! (Newcastle game was end of December, so he went over a month and more without a single goal for us)

What we need from Giroud is to score consistently for us, he can end up going through the whole of January not scoring for us, and then come up with 2 goals in one game in February that takes his tally to 11, which makes it look good on the eyes stat wise, but when you actually look at the way it's being done, that's not really that impressive.

I do expect that if we sign Villa, he will be a much more regular consistent goal scorer than Giroud, who's only scored 6 in the league thus far, 4 of those goals coming in two games (Fulham and Newcastle)

Personally I think Villa is more clinical but Giroud would be more suited against the teams like Stoke. Anyway I hope we sign him because then we'd have Giroud, Theo, Villa, and Podolski all as CF options.

You are just hedging at this point. Giroud has not played exclusively at centre forward. If Villa plays only as much as Giroud has and is only a little bit better, you can only expect ablout one or two goals more, and I'd say that is expecting a lot.

I just can't see how adding Villa to the "cocktail" of strikers is going to improve the output at that position by a significant amount. And the "committee" as a unit, haven't done too badly. RVP has 16 goals, they have 13, and RVP has played a game more.

    No it's a fair statement.
This is a player who has consistently scored goals at the HIGHEST level.(SPAINS ALL TIME TOP SCORER.)

Apps: 550 Goals 295 Goals Per Game Ratio:0.54
(For Spain he has a goals per game Ratio 0.64. 53 goals in 83 games)

World Cup, Champions League, La Liga, European Championship Winner - (has won just about every trophy available to him.)

Like I said - Even Villa at 80% is better than what we have.
