Don't understand Nigel's reasoning here really. Couldn't give less of a toss about the Cups this season, but an oppurtunity to pick up confidence and momentum for a team that is sorely lacking both of those things is not an oppurtunity we can afford to miss. I can understand if a few players are feeling the effects of Sunday then give them a rest, but there's no chance that none of our first 11 couldn't make it back for this game or at least play a part. Obviously we are just putting a dummy team out there and whilst I do understand it's good to give the kids and reserves a run-out, and that the cup is not high on our priorities, in our current situation I don't see the downside of sending out as many first teamers as possible, especially in the defence where we need consistency and trying to pick up a win and some confidence.

Ah well.

I am thinking we all need to get a grip here...just say we played our strongest team and, besides possible injuries, we lose the game - how will that affect us...

And the way we are losing games and shipping goals NA has done the sensible thing to ensure this didnt happen.

Also, he needs to see which other players are ready for consideration (which may sound like not many...)

So, just get behond the team and support them, win or lose...

Not sure I understand the problem, sure we all love our club and want to do well but that isnt always possible.

Personally I get more annoyed with the team when they play really badly in a meaningful game - even against Spurs I wasnt too unhappy as 2nd half we were great.

Now this may not happen today but what else did you exepct with this team out?

you only say the cup is worthless when your losing...<laugh> Its the second biggest cup after the fa cup and only league clubs can play in, tell the eventual winners its a Micky mouse cup..<laugh>

Its not a micky mouse cup. It is something we should be trying to win. The bigger clubs have other comps that they may have a chance to win but not us, its the only realistic chance of silverware so disgarding it makes no sense at all.

Can't say I'm fussed in the slightest about this starting XI. It's fine by me. These players need games.

My only gripe is with the bench. It's impossible to bring all 6 outfield youngsters on, so why select them all? Half kids, half first team - and then depending on how the game pans out pretty much determines which half of the bench you then use.

To be fair to Adkins this game is crying out for Schneiderlin tidying things up in front of the back 4. But how many of us would have been comfortable with him playing tonight? I wouldn't.

So when do we give the up and coming players experience? against Chelsea?
and why will a defeat of the second team reduce the confidence of the first team players who didn't play?
the only people losing confidence are the fans on this forum - and for no reason at all!
Goals galore for Saints 2nd 11 after a little chat at half time.

We have restricted Leeds to only one shot on target so far this game.

We could have raised the confidence in the first team. Plus its not like the second team are separate to the first, train together, so it will affect everyone
