And it's not so much about what the comp is this was a chance for us to get a result and be able to work on the positives at training. With this team he's picked it might as well be a testimonial as its pointless
I feel sorry for FLT and the other Saints fans who traveled up and are freezing their arses off for this garbage.
I am just looking at the BBC website. Apparently we still have not had a shot, which is the same as the first half against Spurs. Not good enough regardless of whether this is a meaningless cup or not. We couldn't defend, it seems we can't attack now.
I think he needs to make changes for the second half. bring on a few players who actually want to have a go
I hate when teams punt the cups, but even I don't have a problem with Saints' lineup. Defense is already thin, can't afford to have anyone injured. I think they could probably do with a long mental break instead of having to play Sunday/Tuesday as well. Also, there are some questions in the lineup and a need to look at some other players, and this is a golden chance for the reserves to make their case (though none appear to have done so thus far). If Reeves, Lee, or Mayuka have a great game, they could be in the lineup the next game having had time to recover.
I agree, we made 11 changes and can't fathom why? We don't have to play again for another 6 days after this. The best eleven should have played it would have given them the opportunity to win a match and take that into the next game. A win under their belts would do more good than a days rest. Last season the backbone of our side were playing Saturday - Wednesday all season and thrived on it. WE as fans can't wait for the next game to put things right and the players are the same. Instead we change the whole 11. I think Adkins maybe losing it and making changes and decisions because he feels the pressure when all he needs to do is play the same system that got us up and which the players are comfortable with.
you only say the cup is worthless when your losing... Its the second biggest cup after the fa cup and only league clubs can play in, tell the eventual winners its a Micky mouse cup..
Well if we are going to get anything we could at least try a shot in the right direction, bring on Chambers he knows where the goal is.
Don't understand Nigel's reasoning here really. Couldn't give less of a toss about the Cups this season, but an oppurtunity to pick up confidence and momentum for a team that is sorely lacking both of those things is not an oppurtunity we can afford to miss. I can understand if a few players are feeling the effects of Sunday then give them a rest, but there's no chance that none of our first 11 couldn't make it back for this game or at least play a part. Obviously we are just putting a dummy team out there and whilst I do understand it's good to give the kids and reserves a run-out, and that the cup is not high on our priorities, in our current situation I don't see the downside of sending out as many first teamers as possible, especially in the defence where we need consistency and trying to pick up a win and some confidence. Ah well.
I think one person said they didnt care about the cup, if you read (i know, i know) you will see we do care
Injured Leeds United striker Ross McCormack on Twitter: "Should easy be 4/5 nil at half time! Hope we don't live to regret it." Can't really argue with that. Thank god he's injured!
