Quite so. I've got a PC I built back in '95. Still running sweet as a nut. I use it as a test box and it multiboots into every MS desktop operating system from Windows 95 thru to XP. I only ever boot it into XP these days, though.
Oh and then when your subscription is 30 days from expiry "YOUR SUBSCRIPTION IS NEARLY UP - YOUR COMPUTER WILL BE RAPED BY NASTY VIRUSES" fills your screen 30 times a day, trying to scare your Granny into entering her credit card details as quick as possible. ****s of programs. Use AVG Free.
Aye do it, try use a bit of common sense though for instance I've got 'Atheros WLAN Agent' which is obviously my wireless network card, which is manufactured by Atheros.
You're experiences with norton and other main stream anti viruses hinder your view on this. BitDefender and NOD32 work fine and don't do any of the **** you mentioned. Mick allow 600x150 on the signature settings - its only a wee increase anyway.
What annoys me is that Norton/Symnantec ****e is what they bundle with new PC's to the unsuspecting masses and then get an annual fee out of them for the privilege. The utter ****s.
Absolutley true. No fooling, no kidding. And that is a VERY conservative estimate, because quite frankly I can't even remember having to repair any of my machines because of infection. Plenty of others people's though.
AudioDG - Windows (your sound basically) Explorer - Windows (your desktop manager) wuauclt - Windows (update service) svchost - Windows (network stuff) Apart from those any other ones in your panel that are under your login name are up for being closed. You'll get the jist of whats what after you close a couple.
Google the names of processes executed at startup, as well as those you can see running in Task Manager. You'll soon find out what they are.
Aye, I install AVG Free, disable it from start up then run it twice a year just in case something is going wrong - but certainly since Windows 7 I haven't had a virus. I can remember installing a Vanilla version of Windows XP, hooking it up to an unfirewalled broadband connection and within 30 seconds of first boot it was infected ****s just using port scanners waiting for a response from 10 billion network connections. Microsoft closed down Admin access by default in Vista though, which stopped a lot of that type of bawbaggery.
Work with apple and PCs in work. Got iphone and bought Mama Pendes an ipad but don't see the hype with apple lappys. Way over priced. You can get a PC with the same or better spec for a bout half the price. As for the virus thing http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/9355995/Apple-drops-virus-immunity-claim-for-Macs.html
Oh, and type the names exactly as you see them. Trojans have a habit of naming bits of themselves very like legitimate processes. For example "svchost.exe" is legit, "scvhost.exe" is almost certainly not.
