Gallowgate still rocking?

Would you say the Gallowgate end is still the best place for atmosphere at SJP (other than strawberry corner)? Haven't had a ticket there for a few years now and am planning to. I'm assuming the strawberry corner has a decent knock-on effect to it when they get going?

 

With level 7 dead, it's not really got any competition, to be honest (unless you fancy sitting in the away end).

My mate followed the internet rumours and got tickets under level 7, and all they get for chanting (by themselves) is suspicious looks. The people in front and behind them somehow bring a picnic with them with hot chocolate and mini pastries for half-time... He and his brother were gobsmacked. His father, who also sits with them and who thoroughly enjoyed level 7, secretly admitted to me that he likes it there

I just went Gallowgate, and the atmosphere's usually pretty good. Plus, all the goals seem to get scored in that end (Arsenal 4-4 Newcastle, anyone?). Don't know why...

 

It's why the team always kicks towards the gallowgate end 2nd half.

 

Its always been that way. Its well known for its suction ability when it comes to footballs.

EDIT I think I did really well to avoid the smut and all the other suction jokes I had lined up. Its all part of my programme of self improvement. My missus has told me I swear too much and turn everything into something sexual. So "Sunderland lasses, golf ball and ****ing hose pipe" were out.

 

The Gallowgate roar has alaways been famous. Not quite the same today as it used to be before the new stands were built. Back in the old days they reckoned the crowd could suck the ball into the net.

My ST's in the Gallowgate and I wouldn't swap it, but for games not covered by the ST I've sat in other areas of the ground and have always been satisfied with things. Had a good view from the Milburn Stand, the atmosphere in the Leazes ( even after the singing section was moved ) is good and the visitors still get outsang/chanted by our mob, and the East Stand isn't too bad either.

Isn't that because of pitch slant? I didn't realise it was as bad as it was until looking at the ad hoardings from the 1892 bar. At the Leazes end the pitch side advertisings block the ad boards of the front of the stand, at the Gallowgate theres a good foot or two gap!

Yes, I played there summer 2011 for my stag do & the slope is ridiculous. I'd never realised how bad it was until I got out there. Downhill towards the Gallowgate.

There's also a massive hump in the pitch near the middle! Never realised til I took the stadium tour... Wonder how that'll affect Scholes' wonderful distribution early on...
