The trend there seems to be that a change in division - even relegation - increases our crowds, but staying in the same division seems to gradually decrease them. A lot of people seem to think that another season in the same league as the year before isn't woth getting excited about.

Erik - the stats you've got on these attandances are really interesting. Most particularly the Macclesfield/Rotherham comparison. I know you like a bit of recognition so there it is <ok>

Also Erik - you're wrong about Mauled by the Tigers.

**** all wrong with maulled. It finds out those with self doubt that take themselves far too seriously, which is what it is aimed at. Real men like it.

As for crowds dropping, I think the poor turn out for us this weekend just gone was predictable.

.. few things in life are ... but it's a little known fact that Lech Poznan actually copied it from us in the 1980s when fans of the mighty Leicester Polska proceeded to do such a jig after beating FC Serbia (again of Leicester) in a local Cup final ...

Part of it for me is the fact I quite simply can't afford to make every game anymore.
Another is where I sit has now been made the Family Stand (without even telling anyone that sits there); so that is a MAJOR put off.
Finally; I strangely enjoy away games more. You often see the "die hard" City fans making the trips and you always get a different group of people giving different opinions on the game which is more enjoyable to me then people shouting abuse at players for 90 minutes.

    Why Are Fans Staying Away?

Its taking me longer and longer to get my face paint on, i keep forgetting and put me sponge hands on first, sometimes i dont even make the game and just go straight to pub with wonky whiskers.

OK fair cop .... but it is actually true that Leicester Polska beat FC Serbia in a local cup final around that time ... 2-0 in fact ... I scored the first and my cousin got the second!! ... neither of us is Polish ... you always need to have a little truth in a 'scam' to make it in any way plausible.. FACT

    Why are fans staying away?

I havent been to a game this season yet, I have a young family and can no longer justify my season ticket when the cost of everything is going sky high. I do intend on going to a few chosen games but will have to have the free cash when these games come around

England weren't too dissimilar tonight from how City have been since we appointed Pearson.

I wrote about dwindling crowds at football matches. It appears to be affecting nearly all clubs across the football leagues. After research that I conducted, concluded it's a combination of factors most of which being:

    (1) Extortionate ticket prices: when clubs run offers such as "Kids for a Quid" or "half-price tickets" crowds are higher.

    (2) Transportation: travel to and from stadiums have increased considerably. Unless you're looking at a local derby match, an away match could potentially cost you £110+ (more if you stay overnight, or eat and drink). Which brings to.

    (3) Economy: despite there being a recession on, people losing their jobs, the prices of everything keeps increasing. Therefore you prioritise what you need, and football tickets are way down the list.

    (4) Seasonality: this is only a minor factor, but the season starts I. August, whereby quite a lot of the country were either witnessing the Olympics, or sitting on a beach in some foreign land. This only accounted for a small percentage of fans.

Ultimately football is becoming less of a working people's sport, but one more for the better off/middle classes of the country, which is a shame, because it ruins the point of making a sport for everyone to enjoy. It just works out cheaper to get SkySports and watch matches on TV.

I noticed that about your rep and wondered what that is all about? I've noticed some posters have multiple green rectangles for their rep, most just have one.

    Just curious.

Sad but very true. For £50 you can have the full sky range and access with sky+ box and not leave your house. You get to see it all and for many hard up families that is what is happening. Its a cheap entertainment centre per month. With ESPN included and a little extra for the Premier Sports channels all the major football leagues in the UK and abroad are covered.

IMO the crowd for the Leeds V. Hull game next tuesday will be low. The £34 ticket price is a Bates rip off and with Leicester City up next that has far more interest to many City fans.

Clubs need to wake up and fast. No match should cost more than £30 in any league and i would go further and say that all 92 clubs should lower the tickets to £25 max Except for say 6 home matches that can be ring fenced for a higher price. There is enough tv money to pay for low ticket prices. Especially in the PL.

Sorry, I already gave you some recently. I always give negative rep and leave a nasty or humorous message. You tend to be on the receiving end a lot.

Some of us are whores to rep.
