The Rules are rules, if another team did it we'd want the same action taken against them. Hard lines but to win a gold medal at the olympics you pretty much need to be perfect. (Although I hope there is also intense scrutiny of the other teams as well, France just looked pretty suspect with their overtake...).
But Australia couldn't take advantage. Even though their biggest rivals were out, they have only managed Bronze, and boy are they disappointed.
China got Gold, with Germany getting the Silver.

Apparently doubt about the Chinese overtaking (from the BBC analyst), but no camera angle to see it properly. Does beg the question of why...
So GB and China both punished for the same offence (China apparently making a bigger mistake). GB get bumped down to last, China get bumped down to second. Fair enufski...

(I must admit though, for an event that is about pure power, it's a bit weird for such a harsh line to be taken on technicalities. I also fail to see what advantage is gained by having the second sprinter having to go further unassisted.)

Cycling is a simple sport; 4 women chase each other round as fast as they can, people break world records, and at the end, the Germans win.
Brilliant day today with more to come tomorrow. Look nailed on for more cycling and rowing golds and Athletics begins!
It doesn't seem right to me that the two best teams there get shafted on a minor technicality.
