One other thing to note. Just after Paul Lambert left Norwich to go to Aston Villa it was reported that Grant Holt wanted out of there and had slapped in a transfer request. Guess what ? He got an improved contract. It may also be a case of just how much does Steve Bruce want Robbie Koren than the other way round. I am still curious to know why WBA let Koren go on a free in 2010 ?

I guess it depends on who you'd be playing. We had a fairly limited squad in Pearson's full season, and Koren paid the price by going out left. I don't think it's that Pearson particularly considered him a left sided player, just that was where he would be most useful to the team. If you're sorted on the wings, then I doubt Koren would rule you out. As yet we don't know if Bruce considers him to be worth building a team around in the centre of the park.

That much more useful out on the left even James Harper played central ahead of him. Says it all really.

That is true. NP liked to play him wide left instead of "In the Hole" where Barmby played him and where he was most effective. Koren hates playing wide almost as much as not playing.

Well we need at least 1 wide player and NP does seem to like to push a cm out wide on occasion. If we did sign him (not suggesing for a minute that we will) , I'd hate to see him wasted out wide.

I'm not saying I agreed with him.

Still where would we be without Harper's pointing. He was brilliant at showing everyone else where they needed to be. Shame that there was no one to show him really.

Most will disagree with me on this but he isn't that bad out wide at all. In his first season with us he played out wide most of the time and got a few very good assists. He did well at times in Barmby's 4-2-3-1 as well and scored more often but I wouldn't say he was wasted out wide. He's got two good feet and a decent cross on him, so on either side he offers service to the strikers.

I was more making the point that even James Harper was preferred to play centrally ahead of him so nige obviously doesn't see him as an ideal central midfielder. With Leicesters strength in the middle and lack of options out wide coupled with Pearsons favoured 4-4-2 formation, I think theres only one outcome to where Koren would play. Seeing how he left west brom after getting fed up of playing out wide so he could go somewhere to play his favoured central position and Nigel did just that - played him on the wing - I can't see him going there unless he's offered a ridiculous contract in comparison to what he gets offered here.

Still plenty of time to go yet before September 1st and if Leicester fail to bring in adequate wingers, it's a very viable possibility. Either way I wouldn't expect to see Koren sign an improved contract just yet.

Maybe Harper was supposed to be on the wing, but wanted to play in the middle so he kept pointing for Koren to move out wide, it might explain his continuous frantic unnecessary pointing.

Is Koren a fan of NP? Didn't he play him out of position?

Just not sure we'd be a particularly attractive propostion to him. Especially if any Prem clubs are sniffing.

NP did play him out of position, although he still chipped in with goals he was rather wasted out wide. If Koren did leave then it would seem sensible to leave for a bottom end premier league side. We've got ambitions for promotion so it would seem daft to leave for a rival.

I dont know any info on this, but I would be very surprised if the clause didnt apply to Premier League clubs only, as suggested by the Daily Mail.

They really have got a dynamite source at the club under this regime.

I thought the £500K was permission to speak to him and not a selling fee, if this is the case as many clubs can talk to him but it doesn't mean we have to accept the offer

Will hopefully know in the next few days. He wanted assurance that the club would invest and move forward.
He's got that today.
Personally think he'll stay, just needs to be shown he's wanted. 2 year improved contract should do it.

If he goes then we just go 4-4-2.

I hope he doesn't go but if he does it removes the constant mystery of how to fit him and two strikers into the same team. We would have to play 4-4-2 as you say and ffs get Cairney in the middle!

I can't remember what stories they've run, which stories did they break?

It seems they were well wide of the mark with the Fuller story.

Koren has to be used in the middle behind the front two so you would have to have a good tackler to play along side him, play him wide and he is not the same player, lets not forget at his age is next contract may be his last good one so when supporters say if he went to another championship club he is only going for the money then yes thats true but at his age who can blame him after he plays out is next contract he will properly go back home
