Not true. Born in northern Ireland and you have a choice on what nationality you can claim. It's not automatic. You can't be from britain though as you are from ireland. If you claim British citizenship( which legally you can if you want) you are still from ireland.

Face facts Patrick. The British don't want you. As far as they are concerned you are nothing more than a **** stain on their green and pleasant land. <ok>

Is Ireland in the UK?

Ahhhh yeah it is.

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/b...ishcitizenship/borninukorqualifyingterritory/

If you were born in the UK on or after 1 January 1983
If you were born in the UK on or after 1 January 1983, you are a British citizen if at the time of your birth one of your parents was:

a British citizen; or
legally settled in the UK.

Good Friday agreement makes it the "birthright" of anyone born there to consider themselves british, Irish or both. They are not from Britain though. Can claim citizenship from day one. But then again an American or Brazilian or (insert any county) can do likewise after 5 years of living there. They are NOT from Britain thoug. Just have the right to claim citizenship called british. As rebel and you have pointed out it should be called UKish really

The citizenship name yes. Because people from the North of Ireland who chose to choose citizenship as a result of being from that part of the uk are not part of Britain. So it's a confusing name for people- as you've proven

Nothing confusing about it. If you are born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland you are British.

And yet you seem quite confused

Bit you aren't from britain. So it is. You also don't have to chose British citizenship. It's the birthright of the everyone born there to chose British, Irish or both If you want to claim british citizenship you can. I'm not denying that. So knock yourself out. You are not from Britain. You are a British citizen from Ireland.

"The bottom line is that if you’re a citizen of a commonwealth country like South Africa, Australia or New Zealand, Canada etc, you may be able to claim UK nationality depending on a combination of factors including marriages, births, legislation and past relationships between the countries."

Canada is in north America. It's not America though. Britain is Britain an Ireland is Ireland. Part of Ireland just happens to be governed by the uk government at present so the people can claim citizenship of the controlling nation. Doesn't change the fact it's not in Britain though. If it were you wouldn't have the uk. It would just be Britain

Yes but people can be Central American, South American and I know many Canadians consider themselves North Americans simply for geographical values.

Norwegians, Swedish and Danes can consider themselves Scandinavians.

I still don't see how the same cannot apply to Northern Ireland.

irish I'm no talking to you your points have as much value as a defunct currency.
