I did tell you so though. It was always pretty deluded to think a player of Holt's calibre could pull on the national shirt. You can't get away with pulling defenders about in international football, it's as simple as that. You can talk about his goals but he has no experience and scoring off your shoulder / back / arse / shin is all very well but won't win you England caps. He was probably about tenth on the list behind lots of strikers with big game experience.

how exactly were we deluded though? have you not seen the clamour of articles saying holt was THE player england should turn to? just cos he didn't get the call doesn't mean we are deluded. if anything, judging by comments from other clubs fans on twitter, they are as annoyed at his absence as we are! its only the ipswich fans who didn't want to see him there. and if you think that andy carroll is more deserving of a place in that squad then it says more about how little you know about football than anything we say i also suggest you find a showreel of all his goals cos if you think they are all scrappy taps ins you are clueless.

So happy for ruddy, he deserves it and I'll be proud to see him at the euros Sad that he'll be one of only a few that actually deserve there place. im sure there are articles for each striker, including Lambert. You chose to read the ones about Holt. Certainly pundits I've seen, Shearer, Lineker, Lawrenson and the Sky Sports lot didn't think he should go. You couldn't see past your bias and the reaction about him being hard done by is nonsense. I don't think I'd take Carroll or Defoe personally but it just shows how far down the pecking order Holt was.

perhaps it is a bit deluded, but the initial part is right. there aren't many of those players who deserve to go and thats what's been wrong with england squads for years and years. nothing has changed
