Why do some still not understand Guly?

Guly has excellent technique, the goal he scored v Brum was a quality finish. He is also very good on the ball. And he even chipped in with some crucial defending on saturday! (Where he headed the ball away when Millwall were lumping balls into the box).
I think that Guly is one of our most creative players! Yes I still think Lallana & Lambert are our best attacking players but he comes strongly in third place 
Defenders just don't know what he will do next on the pitch! You need one pass to score a goal & he offers you that. Teams are going to increasingly park the bus and we need that bit of extra special creativity to unlock defences. I agree he needs to be either behind one or two strikers in the whole maybe a free role. He's still good at right midfield because we have now one else in the squad at the moment who offers a better all-round game than him.
Anyone Remember Matthew Le Tissier??? I think I would be a millionaire by now if I got a quid for every time I heard some call him a lazy git! but by god could he score amazing goals and play golf with a football!!!

Totally agree. He has scored some vital goals this season.
That stat showing him having the same number of goals and assists as Lallana is quite telling.
I can appreciate why some people might get frustrated with him, for probably the same reason that a lot of United fans don't like Berbatov. Someone mentioned 'headless chicken syndrome' and that's exactly what it is in my opinion. De Ridder is an inferior player but everyone loves him because he'll chase everything. I also think any mentions of closet racism are way off the mark - we've had plenty of popular black players down the years, and the abuse I've heard has never been racist in nature.
On a side-note, I was reading a post on a different site where someone suggested that Adkins is forced to play Guly by Cortese. The poster said that Pardew got sacked after the 4-0 win at Bristol Rovers - supposedly for leaving Guly out the side...

People don't understand Guly because he's not your typical Southampton player. We haven't had these enigmatic sometimes class sometimes clumsy players for a while. I'm a huge fan and think his unpredictability is one of his greatest assets. Also deceptively quick and very good at getting his foot to a ball infront of a defender. He also looks like he permanently wants a cuddle

Absolutely spot on! I agree people shouldn't always jump on Guly's back but also i think that if someone wants to say that Guly didn't play well they should be able to without people jumping on their backs! He is a player that can be amazing one moment and then the next you'll be tearing ya hair out with him! I won't lie,there have been plenty of times when i've praised him and plenty of times where i've got frustrated with him but that is the same for every player on the pitch (apart from Rickie) Think sometimes people just need to accept that other people may have different opinions than them! Also someone again mentioned the bleeding race card!! That has got to be the most pathetic thing i read on these boards!
By the way i have attended 34 of the 37 games this season and am not a armchair fan so i have gave my honest opinion on what i see at games.
Used to make me laugh when people would go on about him being a lazy player. Then he'd pop up, win the game or save the day, and they wouldn't be able to appreciate his genius because for the previous part of the afternoon they'd been saying what a waste of space he was. I don't think I've ever come across a player who left me so regularly speechless or gasping for air, after my body had forgotten to breathe. Let's set aside the wonderful goals - we know all about those. The times he'd hit an inch perfect 30, 40, 50 yard pass, either right to the player's foot, or to the receiver's pace, if he was running. You want to see someone appear to have the ball tied to his laces..? Just look at the number of times he'd waltz around a few players, and because he often took his time, the first one would have another go, only to be tackling the air again. You want a perfect cross from either foot on either wing - he's your man. Saints never needed one footed Beckham on the right. We had a bloke who did it every bit as well and with far less palaver. Want a free kick bent round, over or through a wall, to score or become a ball to be headed..? Matty was that provider. He was simply the best.
If I'm going to criticise anything about MLT, it's not his apparent lack of ambition; he was happy and that's ambition enough. Nor was it his inability to tackle. Plenty of players can't do that. Nope, it's that he eventually took it a little too easy, even for his own good. In his early career, after he'd established himself, say 1989 -1994, he was in pretty good shape, 99% of the time, and did a fair bit of running about and work of the kind that doesn't allow the lazy player tag to start. After those years he was uneven, let's say, in his fitness, despite having plenty of his best moments. And I think he shortened his career because of it. By the same token, if you want runners, there's upto a potential nine headless chickens available, if you want. And not one of them with the ability to unlock a game.
when spidy came to us, alot of people accused him of most of the same things, cant tackle-game passes him by-lazy-loosing the ball etc. I think that most people on here would say that they have no doubt that he can now move up a league with no problems, yet he was poor when played out of position on the right. maybe we should look at what guly is strong at, and play to his strengths which i do not consider to be on the right as he drifts in and leaves the RB exposed. can he play alongside spidy ? with spidy in his normal defensive position, could he be our own patrick vieira, breaking up play and then attacking or looking for the killer pass
Cortese trusts Adkins and I don't believe for one minute that he has anything to say about team selection.

I have loved watching some great players for Saints over the years. The young Terry Paine torturing full backs; the mighty Ron Davies who headed a ball harder than others could kick it; the majestic Mick Channon running with the ball at his feet to cries of "roast 'em Micky" (oh that Hampshire burr!); the aforesaid MLT and now we have Guly Do Prado. They all got slated. Channon had one good game in 4 I was told by a stern critic once. No, he had one game in 4 when he was unplayable, the other 3 he was mortal. The Cup run in 76, away to WBA 1-0 down and Micky had been anonymous. Suddenly he turned their defence with one of his famous gallops and squared to Stokes to score. Le Tiss v Wimbledon away in '98, two goals and we were safe from relegation. The ball payed by Do Prado for Ridder to score against Reading to snatch a draw when we had been battered.

Guly is a very, very frustrating player. I think you have got to ask yourself .......What actually makes a good player? Is it the player that puts the ball in the back of the net? Is it the other 5/6 players that battled to get the ball to him to score that goal? Or maybe one of the four defenders that stopped the other team from scoring that passed the ball to one of the 5/6 players who between them passed it to the goal scorer? Football is a team game....the effort put into the game by any individual players is not necessarily seen by us fans because some times it happens so quick. Also it could be that if the player hadn't actually ran into one particular spot making a defender move therefore creating an opening, may actually be missed by the fans. The thing that stands out with anyones game is the negatives. The positives are easily missed. The type of player Guly is which if I may say is typical Brazilian is hot and cold. On their day brilliant, if it is not their day Oh boy. Because of their style of play they are more noticable good or bad. We just have to trust in Nigels judgement.......you will have to agree he ain't done bad!!!
he is lazy, with zero work rate. yes he may score some goals but he doesn't have very good positional sense. He isn't very good at tackling, which is needed when playing rm.
And another thing that annoys me about him is that Nigel plays him even after he hasn't played very well. We have Chaplow, Puncheon and SDR who can all play in the RM position better than him. SDR might not have the best delivery but he puts effort in and changes the games when he comes on. CHaplow was awesome when he played in this position earlier in the season. Puncheon got given another chance but we just don't seem to have given him the chance that he deserves after all this. He didn't play baldy when he played for us, and has proven he is a decent play from his times at millwall and blackpool.

I would completely ignore anything he says. His post shows that he is in fact, ****ing clueless. I can't even bear to read his whole post as it is beyond cringe worthy, I've never seen someone so wrong/misinformed.
I can only hope he posted it as some sort of "funny" joke.
Evolution a lot of people on here who have played football to a very high standard have explained to you just how good Guly is. You are starting to sound a little silly by saying Guly is lazy. Lazy he is most definately not. Do me a favour next home game settle back for ten minutes and just watch him alone. See the ground he covers, the deft little touches the sweet short passes weighted just right. Watch how he quickly moves from attack to defence.
This guy is seriously good and that is why Nigel picks him, there are no other reasons.
He has a high work rate and tackling are better than Lallana's. As is his movement hence why he's capable of playing striker. He's also got more height than Lallana. I'm not even going to bother comparing him to SDR, Chaplow and Puncheon again because simply they are no where near as good as Guly.
No one is better than him at RM for reasons already mentioned. SDR hardly changes games with 3 goals, 3 assists in the entire season. Puncheon has done **** all since his return and he's an arrogant disrespectful sob to boot. Puncheon's let every team he ever played for down as he has zero end product
You are the same Person who loves Harding and thought he'd be a better rm that Guly LOL, please go away
