Kissed the badge endlessly when behind the scenes was pushing for a move. Along with Adkins being kicked, and the realisation that "the Southampton Way" and "we're different to all these other clubs" was just sloganised BS, Lallana's exit period was what lost the romance that had rekindled my love of Saints :(

Was happy to be "Mr Southampton", happy to kiss the badge. Happy to state he would love to stay at Saints until he retired.........then next week.......I want to leave.

Its the whole fake former bit that was the problem. Was my fav player and the "Southampton forever" sentiment from his own mouth was a big part of that.

Yes I do hold a grudge. It was a big part of me falling out of love with Southampton FC and eventually with football again.

I used to discuss this with my Dad who first went to watch Saints in 1948. He stopped going after about 2015 but he always said Keegan was the most talented but that Dave Armstrong probably had the biggest impact. But it is a shame that the likes of Charlie Wayman , Terry Paine and Ron Davies are so far in the past that many posting here will never have seen them assuming they have heard of them.

I first went to The Dell in about 1974 and just feel that players like Ball, Armstrong and Golac are overlooked in this thread. These are the players I grew up following and represent the point at which Southampton were at their finest.

If we’re talking best 5 in a Saints shirt it’s gotta be: Le Tiss, Keegan, Channon, Paine & Lambert

If we’re talking most talented 5 players to have played for Saints but not necessarily at their best during their time with us then it’s; Shearer, Bale, Mane, Van Dijk & Keegan

Difficult to argue with this.

I think there should be another category fir cult players. This would have to include Franny but remember George Lawrence with affection.

Still can't believe that as an 11 year old, not only did my first (you never forget your first lol) football hero play for Southampton, but I met him after a match. Starstruck for days.

EDIT: Hero = KK
