Your Mum should have replied, 'Well you are a good advert for the food in here.' Or would that have made it worse:cheesy:

Two issues seemed to have raised their ugly head in this thread. One being this racist thing being banded about. Because someone criticizes one of our coloured players , how on earth can this be construed as Racist??
I know we have to be very PC these days but bloody hell that is taking things way off the planet. I have not heard one racist comment at St Marys since it was built.
I have heard a lot of grouches that's for sure. I have been known on the odd occasion to let off a few myself.....<laugh>
As for people leaving early.......strewth guys that has been happening since I have been attending football. A bloody long time (almost as long as Frans 70years :emoticon-0136-giggl)
Yes I know it is annoying and it is a sign of the times that more and more people seem to be doing it. So unless they stop you at the gate from leaving it is going to happen. Most tell me they are doing it to "miss the crowds"!!
Unfortunately they are just as important as you or I that stay to the very end. They pay the same as me and you......No I don't like it, and yes it will continue to happen long after I'm gone and yes we that stay, will continue to moan about it.

But there was a time when you couldn't say BLACK, but could say COLOURED. Beddy got his eras mixed up. ;)

Examples: 1: You are a lazy bast*rd: 2: You are a lazy black bast*rd: Which is worse? It is my point about labelling people. Still doesn't change the fact that the person concerned is lazy! No names, no pack drill.

What shows how foolish racism is, as well as being wrong, is when you try to differentiate between black and white. In South Africa, you could have one sibling defined as white and another with the same parents defined as mixed race. Ryan Giggs father is of West Indian origins, yet how many think of him as black? We can all interbreed so therefore are the same species. People should be judged by who they are not what they are.

So if I say "You lazy coloured black" that covers all aspects and era's as well yes.....no offence meant to anyone. Just making a point.

Like the thought of the interbreeding bit, but sadly past it these days, no harm in trying though.

Exactly my point, labelling is the problem, the ethnic minority bit, is still labelling, however much you think that it is Politically Correct!

...um, thinking about some of the specimens I have seen in and around football grounds, I am not sure I would agree with the "we are all the same species" bit ;)

What if I was black and kept giving Davis abuse, saying he is **** etc. Would that be racist?. Yes I get some ppl are racist torwards our black players. But simply by saying they are **** or moaning at them isn't racist.

I just don't get some peoples view of what racism is or not.

It is a very complex subject and I can understand how you could get confused, the truth is that some people have disorders and cannot help themselves, Tourettes is a nasty afflication but has to be understood and tolerated. Tim Howard suffered from it and Referees had to be made aware to prevent him getting booked for something he had no control over. On the other hand there are some people who are down right nasty and can help themselves but chose not to, preferring the abuse method to get their hatred across, these are the ones that need educating. Ignorance is not an excuse. On the other hand "Political Correctness" can create a kind of reverse racism, my constant argument is, don't label people in a stereotypical way, and you can avoid the problem.

No two players are alike, thank goodness, I would hate to see eleven robots slugging it out, we all have differing opinions on Guly, I like him but I don't see that we have got the best out of him yet, where he is played is the vital thing, no way will he ever be a right winger, but a player in the hole directing the traffic, that may be something else, you don't have to be a Tasmanian Devil to be a dynamic footballer.

I think he is starting to pick up on the negativity as well, did anyone see him clap to the Northam fans when half of them started to sing the GULY song? I for one really like Guly and have him and his number on the back of my shirt, something I was being berated for by other fans.

Interesting that the Football League show commented on how patient Saints fans are of our "keep the ball" style. Part of the problem is that we forget that for some whining is why some fans go to matches. It's not something I have ever understood. As a kid I naively commented to a fan next to me that Paine had had another good game and was treated to a searing verbal attack as he'd put one cross into the crowd that this bloke's mum would allegedly have got on to Davies' head. We'd just beaten West Ham 6-2! I think these people have a problem, but as Beddy says they all pays their money so we have to tolerate them. I try to screen them out and just talk to other people I know are thinking the same as me.

I have wondered about whether there is a racist element to the abuse of Guly, but it's hard to completely sustain. Like the OP I am a big fan of this bloke, and think we'll see him (and Schneiderlin) really bloom in the Premiership where the way teams play will suit him. I thought both were excellent second half on Saturday, and the patient keep ball approach saw us out to what in the end was a comfortable win in a game which could have been a banana skin.
