You're mixing two very different things, but arguably you could be King, all you need do is check out the history of the Monarchy and look at previous changes.
The buildings are unlikely to exist in their current form if the Royals weren't obliged to maintain them, plus a big part of the attraction is the history associated with them. We'd still need to pay for their security in the same way that former PM's and Presidents cost more than the ones in Office. The difference is that contrary to what you put, the Royals cost nothing and play their part in bringing in billions of pounds of income from trade and charity. As for losing the priveliged position, I wouldn't swap my life for their goldfish bowl existence.
It's most likely your ancestory came from Germany (Anglo Saxon) Scandinavia (Norse), Ireland/ Wales/ Scotland (Celtic), Italy (Roman) or France (Norman). I very much doubt most of us are 100% English and have no other blood lines from those who have invaded/ come over to England over the centuries.

I'm not someone who is desperate to deny my roots. My eye and hair colouring, plus my surname, indicate Danish roots. On my dad's side, his grandmother was Russian Jewish. My house landlord's ancestry is Norman. My local pub's landlord is of Ukrainian descent. The point I'm making is that the "British" have always been a mixture - from the first invaders, right up to the last (the Normans). So it might be suitable to have a Greco-German royal family. Republicanism is a crap idea. We already have a devolved monarchy anyway and the politicians are ruining this country. Our history, economy, traditions, laws, identity thorughout the world is all based on the monarchy.

Actually, that's completely wrong, the monarch owns the Crown Estates and the Duchy of Lancaster, but all of the income goes to the Treasury. The Prince of Wales owns the Duchy of Cornwall and a quarter of the income goes to the Treasury(3 times as much as if it paid Corporation Tax). Out of this, we pay for the costs of running the royal family, it only costs us about half of the ã230m generated by the Crown Estates.
That may be OLM although I have not seen these published stats anywhere and I am unsure as to what year you refer to? The fact of the matter is, it is the property and not necessarily this current crop of vile individuals who generate this money for the country, how did they obtain the property in the first place? To me the property should be in the ownership of the country and an asset to the country and not to those people. Additionally when the lovely Liz dies will her family have to pay inheritance tax on the property left? No of course not - surely the Nil Rate Band (of ã325,000) should apply to her as well as it does to us 'plebs'? Then the country would receive Inheritance tax on the passing assets of 40% after this sum, subject to some other minor adjustments. I know we have got off the subject somewhat and we all have our opinion and I respect that but I don't see how the fact that there are no street party requests in Hull for this wedding to make the people of Hull miserable. An incidental to this is that the Prince of Golf (Andrew) earns ã250k per annum to hang about with billionaire *****'s - nice!
