Losing a game in a tournament is often fatal. In this instance, that one defeat was enough to send us packing. You must admit the whole World Cup campaign was a shambles.
We were lucky to get past the group, then played a half decent team and got destroyed. Had we played Spain, well, who knows.
Losing happens, but being that **** consistently at the tournament that is the sum total of all your preparation, is ****.
The lack of fight was alarming.
What about the group games?
Drew with the USA, Algeria and scraped a win against Slovenia.
The Algeria game was mind numbingly bad, totally and utterly dire. One of the most boring games I can recall ever watching.
Fact is we were awful in that tournament and any half decent side would have stuck four past us.

Italy and France got knocked out in the group stages, that's a shambles. We got past the **** teams and got beat by a good one and were very, very unlucky in doing so. That Germany game was way closer than most people remember, we got done on the counter when we shouldn't have been behind at all. At 2-2 the second half could have gone in any direction, and their 3rd goal came from a Lampard free kick hitting the bar (if it was two inches closer, would the media still tell us he's ****?).
We make out like we're the most embarrassing team ever, there are far worse teams.
For the record I wasn't that bothered about Capello but I can't stand all the criticism of the national team no matter what happens.
the John Terry ship has sailed and it would not surprise me now that Capello has gone that the new manager wont even be allowed to pick JT. why bother with the trial eh, everyone has got JT guilty already. FA are just that....FA.

Possibly put Welbeck up top and drop Rooney back into Gerrards position. For the opening world cup games I'd be tempted to put Lampard in for Wilshere and Welbeck in for Rooney, depending on form possibly Oxlade-Chamberlain in for Young but wingers must be playing on opposite foot to cut in and curl shots in. That is where I think our national team is hindered as we still seem to stick to the ancient philosophy of wingers running down the flanks and putting crosses in to NOBODY who can jump high and header a ball well. Keep up with the times, get a modern tactic where a 5 man midfield essentially turns into a very potent 3 man attack. **** the useless ****s like Glen Johnson and Milner and definitely **** the young nobodys like Jones and Smalling and absolutely definitely **** the nowhere near good enough for England ****s like Jagielka and Cahill.

Be honest, they're the two best center backs we have and partner each other well.
And why don't we have a chance? We have a ****ing good team capable of beating anyone on their day, we just need tactics and a system that suits them, not an old school thing of wingers being wingers when there's no one to aim at, with a midfield so defensive and rigid even Messi would struggle getting into the box and getting a shot on goal.
well for starters the squad will be divided. pro Terry camp and the pro Ferdinand camp. those 2 wont play in the same side again, imo. England is a busted flush. Give the youth a chance in the euros and plan for 2014.
Christ, wheres the traditional football fan mentality? Never give up! We should go there with everything we've got, and give it a ****ing good go, play our best team possible. Nevermind aiming for the quarter finals, anything short of winning it isn't good enough. Saying that failing doesn't mean we're **** and all that bollocks, but what's the point in being happy at doing half a job, or if you get your way with youth, wasting a golden oppurtunity.
I agree with almost everything you've said, but I'm not sure about your wingers thing. We've been doing opposite footed wingers for ages. It's usually Downing on the right and Young on the left. We've been known to use Walcott and Milner on the right at times but I can't remember the last time a left-footer played on the left wing.
Isn't that more down to there not tending to be any decent left footed wingers eligible to play for England? Look back a few years and it was Bridge and A.Cole if we wanted two left footers, and before that I can't remember a left footed midfielder playing for England.
I'm going to say Downing or Johnson was the last left footer to be played on the left because they must have done at some point.
That's probably right, but they nearly always play on the right like Brady. It always annoyed me that Capello seemed to prefer Downing; whenever Johnson plays for City or England he always seems really good but he can't seem to establish a place.
Golden generation ? thats a laugh. They have failed so many times that enough is enough. Take leaf out of the Germans and use the euros to blood the kids and plan for 2014 onwards. This lot have failed us far to often and more to the point do they actually care anyway ?
I don't see how good english improves someone's ability to communicate with the average footballer? Have you seen Ferdinand's tweet and heard him talking?
But I thought Capello's english was supposed to be fine, he just used it as an excuse not to give interviews when he first took the job. I'm sure there were a couple of players or pundits who said having met him his english was good and they couldn't understand why he was nervous about giving interviews. He certainly knew what to say to the FA when they started interfering with his job anyway.

Seriously? i'm almost not prepared to answer this comment.
It's about creating the right chemistry within a team. A manager who can get the right message across, using the right words and tone, to get his authority across. I'm not saying that they didn't understand each other. But a foreigner, no matter how good his english is, creates a different vibe. I can vouch for that. PLus Capello's english was quite poor to be honest. He can obviously get the main messages across but there are so many fine and subtle differences in english language, that could change things a lot psychologically. Like you said, the english spoken by most of these thick players is quite poor. Therefore you need someone who can communicate on the same level. I want a manager who is a bit like a friend-parent, who can relate properly and understand players personally but keep a sense of authority too.
I think Capello was strong authority figure but he created too much of a barrier with the team.
Capello did have Pearce as his right hand man though who could have got Capello's message across if he or Capello didn't think Capello could put it across (if that makes sense?)
True but I just think if I was a player under Capello, I would see him like that boss you never really communicate with and deal with personally. Sure players could talk to SP but I find from experience that I worked better under bosses I felt closer to, who came down to my level.
It would appear from some of the players' tweets that they're upset he's gone. It's possible he was completely different with them than the image we get of him from the media.
Plus Sven and McLaren were criticised for being too pally with the players. Managers cant win on that score really
