Anyone else think tomorrow is pretty much a write off for any transfer dealings considering we have a fixture in the evening?

Metro have got with the program and said we're in a race against time for Leandro. Naturally, with no interest from Barca, Real, Milan, Inter, Juve, MUPLC, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal (which have all been "rivals" for his signature) we're now competing with PSG.

Bostock's loan to Sheffield Wednesday is official as is Caroll's loan to Derby:

According to Sky gossip, QPR are gonna put in a higher bid for Pienaar. I wouldn't want him to go as he's a great backup to have but considering he was one of the first names on Everton's teamsheet, it's understandable why he wants to move on.

Anyone know what's happening with GDS?

Also - has it ever been stated how much we paid for Yago Falqué? I don't like that 'unknown fee' on the front page :P

It's funny how this "unknown fee" thing has cropped up in the last few years. Why did it never happen before? Why does it happen now?

It's...sort of annoying. For no good reason perhaps, but it just is.

Thats interesting, I didn't expect that, Malaga aswell, another team with more cash than us though, and PSG's manager is Leonardo, it would certainly be a coup if we got him.

Ancelotti is PSG's manager.

Not sure why there's the defeatist attitude when it comes to clubs who have more money than us - Bale chose us over MUPLC (when they had money) and Pienaar chose us over Chelsea, among others. There's also the issue that Malaga are in 7th in La Liga despite their backing and player investment, and Ligue 1 is seen as a halfway house for Spain, Italy or England than a final destination, so on paper we have an advantage if we negotiate correctly.

Ancellotti - He is aswell isn't he, just took over! <doh>...in with a shout then! :)

There's always exceptions to the rule hbic, generally it just seems to be the way it goes these days, best deal wins, not necessarily the best football decision.

in the last window we had a game and the cameras were focussing on Adebayor in the stands. I don't think it'll make much difference as Levy will have a list of plyers that 'arry wants and he'll take care of it whilst the game is going on, if needs be.

for me, it all just seems a lot quieter than normal, that's why i don't think there'll be much going on. even when we try to keep things under wraps, rumours get out a few days before we sign someone officially. this January, there's been very little.

if Levy pulls off the signing of Leandro tomorrow, i'd be very surprised.

As would I - it's been quiet, not just for Spurs, but for all EPL clubs (apart from perhaps Chelsea who signed Cahill and have apparently nearly signed De Bruyne).

Assuming no transfer dealings occur - it's still been a reasonable window for us. Falqué looks OK (at least as a squad player) so I'm glad we made that loan permanent. Other than that, it's good to see the youngsters get loans to good clubs - that was really important after our early exit from the Europa League.

New Striker hasn't presented himself so far, apart from our links to Remy and Damiao - Remy was quickly shut down and the Damiao link... it never seems to go away but it never seems to progress either. Bit weird that one.

January dealings are always difficult - it's midway through the season, why would a club want to lose their best players (unless the fee/wages are OTT - something which we can't compete with).

Isn't there a rule that we have to make Transfer Deadline Day interesting for Sky, by only conducting our business on that day and in the most dramatic fashion possible?
I predict about 8 random transfers, half of which will be totally unknown to our manager, who will still say that each of them is a good lad.

Go back and read my post (#307) on page 16 <laugh>

Probably one of the few ways to top the van der Vaart signing, Moorpheus!
Perhaps this window's unsurprising surprise signing could drop into the Spurs Lodge by parachute or something?

Remember the Ryan Babel stuff? Sky were reporting that he was on his way down to Spurs Lodge via helicopter - nearly went out onto the M25 in an attempt to shoo him away :D

some very good points Moorph, but the catch 22 for us is injuries. If Adebayor gets injured, we don't have a replacement and we're left in the same situation we were all complaining about before we signed him on loan. - no target man.

this stage of the season is the toughest;Clubs face injuries for all sorts of reasons. We're lucky that we've got pretty good cover all over.

however, we all know we need a couple of players.

what do we do? leave it as it is?

or do we take a "punt" based on some careful due diligence over a period of time? (leandro) - a reported £22 mill "punt"

our aim as a club was to finish top 4. perhaps levy might be thinking that we've shown enough this season in our performances and think's we'll achieve that without investment?

whatever the case, I respect Daniel Levy as a businessman and I'm sure he'll make the right decision.

That's why Leandro makes a lot of sense - it's the Brazilian close season (the same goes for Bilyaletdinov moving to Spartak the other day, or the player Villa signed from Shamrock)

Not that I'm suggesting that in January we only deal with clubs from Brazil, Russia, Argentina (etc etc), but if a player who could go straight into the team and improve it was available we should by all means sign them. After all, they'd be a fresh pair of legs and, given they won;t be firing on all cylinders for a few weeks, they'd come into form during the crunch time in March.

Liverpool v Tottenham, 4th Feb
Tottenham v Newcastle, 11th Feb
Arsenal v Tottenham, 25th Feb
Tottenham v Man Utd, 3rd March

I think the crunch time is Feb (and 3 days of March)!
