Maybe we could sell Hamer and buy a better keeper with the money. That's how January transfers work, right?
Our fantastic back 4 might have something to do with it. I don't think it would be much different with Sulli in goal.
I agree much of our success is down to our goal keeper, what he doesn't need is posts undermining his confidence every time he keeps a clean sheet and I'm certain Sullivan would agree, a guy who always backs up his fellow GKs.
No doubt the back 4 are a massive reason behind it - but Hamer has made some top saves and at very important times also. He seems to be have been successful at every club in his young career.
This thread seems to have taken a strange turn. Yesterday was a fantastic result and we're all chuffed to bits, but the team was stronger in some departments than others, something which surely it is reasonable to discuss? Goalkeepers are their own sternest critics, and I'm sure Hamer is aware that his performance dipped yesterday.
You've obviously not watched BWP play!
This thread OP is about getting rid of Hamer, Waggy and BWP. I think posts about their career/season records to date are appropriate for this discussion. In terms of Hamer, I don't think anyone in the 'keep' brigade has said he played well yesterday. He's had better days, lots of them.
I'll confess I'm one of the keep brigade and.. I have to admit if you look back at previous games there was no difference to flapping from Hamer yesterday as there has been in any other game, just yesterday was such a high profile game that everyone has picked up on it more. On another note I dont know what people thought about Nick Pope in the Kent Senior Cup but a mate of mine is a Welling fan and yesterday sent me a message saying that Pope had a great game I know its a different League / opposition but every time the ball was whipped into the area he caught with ease.
I'd actually give Hamer a lot of credit for the clean sheets. Its clear that its a case of the strong 'back 5' rather than 'back 4'. The central defenders at least seem to feel a lot more confident with Hamer in goal rather than Sullivan. Look at when Hamer was sent off against Orient for example, first thing Sullivan had to do was scream at Morrison for making a mistake. Its very odd, anybody who has ever sat/stood behind Hamers goal will no doubt have noticed that he's VERY quiet, even when trying to shout (quite the opposite of Sullivan), yet he seems to command his box very well.
Addick4life, having gone to the Welling game on Boxing Day, I was very impressed with Pope's handling.
I agree with every word of this but also think Sullivan is a very good GK and we're lucky to have him as back up.
Saw Pope against Bromley..... very impressed with his all-round game, especially his handling. Definitely one to watch.
Agree Pat - I'm a Suli fan also and think it shows the progress we are making by having both of them in the squad. Not Luke Daniels, Neil Etheridge, Carl Ikeme etc
unbelievable comments seven points ahead at the top of the league and still moaners!.....This is the best team for years, and i have watched since the sixties without a break and have witnessed some complete dross!....ENJOY....
