Good to hear that about Pope, thanks WWOCB and FHB. In regards to him making 19 clean sheets whilst @ Brentford (was really surprised to see him getting booed when they came to the Valley, especially as he was never their player) He's already on 11 for us this season and only halfway through the season. I also think that Sulli is a great backup Goalkeeper, like Chrissy said if you remember Daniels, Etherige and Ikeme, going further back I never felt comfortable with the majority of backup GK's we had if Kiely got injured. Elliot / Randolph and Hamer / Sulli are the best combo's we've had in a long time
It's a regular pattern with this poster, GMR - only ever posts after a defeat, a 'losing' draw or what he perceives as a sub-standard performance and only ever posts negative comments. Such a pity he uses the name of a Charlton legend as a monicker.
Chris Solly had another good game; and at this stage of the season he would get my vote as Player of the Year. Tewksbury, you post a great deal. I believe you mentioned within the last week or so, 'that you had not seen Charlton in a while....'; did you mean SE7 or the team? I would be as pleased as anyone in the event we were to get promoted; but not with this squad. Simply not good enough
So we wouldnt get promoted after dropping just two points and taking fourteen points against Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Huddersfield and MK Dons who are our only rivals for the title. Just out of curiousity what is good enough for you Rufus? And before you ask how many times I've seen Charlton this season... I've missed them TWICE. And that is why no one takes you seriously
Not me, Rufus - that'd be wrong on either count. So, why do we only get negative posts from you - what's the point you're trying to make? Where are you exactly when we win? Why don't you want to celebrate success when it comes? Goodness only knows, there's been little enough opportunity to do that in the last few seasons. IMO this squad is good enough to get promoted, but certainly not good enough to stay up without substantial strengthening.
I would think telling Ben Hamer he had a bad game yesterday, would be like telling him that he had a spot on his nose!!!!....he would not need anyone to state the obvious...And this constant slagging off of Scott Wagstaff,i suppose everyone eating humble pie over Chris Solly and thought start on someone else!....Wiggins now the greatest yet how many games did people give him before they started, probably as many as three!......
I am an ST holder but have missed many games this season due to other commitments so much so that the wrong ticket stub was taken out of my book and I had a real job getting in against Oldham. We've had some really good wins eg Preston where the team were class, then some not so good wins like Sheff Utd yesterday where the midfield was off, apart from JJ, in my view and the defence/GK won the game but you have to give credit where it's due and be more constructive in your criticism.
CAnnot be entertaining all the time, on some occasions you need to grind out the results and may only play as well as the other team allows...IMO the back four won us the game yesterday along of course with JJ,Bradley Pritchard was below par yesterday but look where he has come from and did he take a battering at the wendies.
Tewkes, there are always people who want to post only negative posts - its all part of their psyche ! Some people used to think that i was only a negative poster on 606 - but that was just me being fed up with the dross being served up by Parky ( thats my excuse !). This current team is the dogs B, so resilient when not playing well and so expressive when they are playing well- interesting to hear Mr Slater on Chalrton Live tonight saying that it was a squad assembled with a view to the Championship - therefore we shouldnt expect much 'strengthening' in the close season SHOULD we be promoted- however, the possibility of doing a Norwich or Southampton shouldnt be beyond us.
totally agree. remember when Norwich came to the valley and got promoted 2 years ago, won 1-0 without playing particularly well, grounded out the result, we applauded them for their resilience and they deserved the title, our performance yesterday reminded me of them then, so in my view we are on the right track, i think the next few games we will be more expressive, expect stephens to pull the strings again soon and BWP will bang a few in and push us on....I'm excited about this team as they are so adaptable and how long had it been since we saw a team fight for EVERY ball!
The team played really well that day, as they often did under Parky. I think he was an incredibly unlucky manager and so undeservedly so.
Hamer is a quality keeper imo.... Every good keeper has offdays/fumbles/drops/ etc... Stick or Twist? Id defo stick with Hamer and he'll proberly be our number 1 in the championship too unless someone comes in for him over the summer!
