We have Olifinjana for headers from corners and free kicks now. But Nick wants his teams football played on the deck which is fine by me. Lets see how the window pans out. T.W.T.
I can't see Oli starting ahead of Evans or McKenna so we are no stronger aerially than before (no goals, or even nearly goals, from 138 corners was it?). I'm all for good football but I dn't think that means you have to be all be tiny at the same time. For example Yaya Toure looks like a big clumsy centre half but he is technically one of the best players around. Obviously we can't have anyone that good but it'd be nice to have somoene who can pose an aerial threat without making us a long ball side. See the way Southampton play for evidence.
I'd like us to sign a striker because I simply don't have faith in Fryatt's consistency, except when through on goal when he is consistently terrible. I like McLean more than most but I still can't see past the fact that most of his shots are off target (even though it's better than backpassing it to the keeper like Fryatt, it still doesn't get us anywhere). Maybe Simpson will have to be that man.
I'm quite happy with the approach NP and NB have taken the last 18 months. We still need a plan B though and have for that whole time. I think NB is naive if he thinks otherwise.
Agree completely. Far too often over the past 12 months we've conceded pretty early and been chasing the game for 60 or 70 minutes and not even come close to scoring. We've done the opposite in away game and defended really well, but to get promoted we need to be able to account for conceding the odd unlucky goal and still be able to go on and win, the way it is at the moment you sort of know we've lost as soon as we concede first.
Teams with a lot more money to spend than us struggle to find a reliable striker who can score at this level. Do you go for someone from a lower league (Jordan Rhodes type) unproven above league 1 who will command a big transfer fee. Or an ageing prem league player (yakubu type) who will expect massive wages.
We just have to accept that at the minute a 20 plus goal a season striker is beyond us, so taking a chance on someone like Josh King is our best bet.
This is probably about right, we'll just have to hope the likes of Simpson and King can offer us something different.
