I can't see Oli starting ahead of Evans or McKenna so we are no stronger aerially than before (no goals, or even nearly goals, from 138 corners was it?). I'm all for good football but I dn't think that means you have to be all be tiny at the same time. For example Yaya Toure looks like a big clumsy centre half but he is technically one of the best players around. Obviously we can't have anyone that good but it'd be nice to have somoene who can pose an aerial threat without making us a long ball side. See the way Southampton play for evidence. I'd like us to sign a striker because I simply don't have faith in Fryatt's consistency, except when through on goal when he is consistently terrible. I like McLean more than most but I still can't see past the fact that most of his shots are off target (even though it's better than backpassing it to the keeper like Fryatt, it still doesn't get us anywhere). Maybe Simpson will have to be that man. Agree completely. Far too often over the past 12 months we've conceded pretty early and been chasing the game for 60 or 70 minutes and not even come close to scoring. We've done the opposite in away game and defended really well, but to get promoted we need to be able to account for conceding the odd unlucky goal and still be able to go on and win, the way it is at the moment you sort of know we've lost as soon as we concede first. This is probably about right, we'll just have to hope the likes of Simpson and King can offer us something different.
If City were willing to push the boat out to strengthen our promotion bid this season the player I would go for is Theo Robinson at Derby. I understand that he is probably on a long contract with them and that they will not welcome any interest, but at this point the player may see us as a better chance of Prem. football and could also be less than impressed with Derby's ambition and his future prospects there. The reasons I think Robinson would be a good punt are: He showed in both games against us that he is a dangerous player. Derby were a much lesser team after he was injured at their place. He is proving that he can score and make goals in this division which is a positive that couldn't be taken for granted with a Man U rookie or a hot shot from a lower division. He is only 22 and should have a bright future, so a substantial outlay would be justified for a player who may become a much bigger financial asset. We should be able to get him for less than the likes of Sharp and Maynard. Poss £2million at a wild guess.
Not being funny but I thought that the similarities to Caleb Folan were fcuking frightening, and we only paid half of what you're suggesting for Folan
No probs. If you stick your head above the parapet there's a good chance it will be blown off. I just think he has a lot of potential and is within our range unlike others that have been mentioned. This seems to be the season where he is finding his feet, but I wouldn't mind betting he will be one of the big names next season.
Josh King is currently at the KC, you can all wave to him in the stand at tomorrow's game. It would seem we have ourselves a new striker.
Theo Robinson? Did you see him play against us? He was rubbish, it took him 5 mins with our defenders stood watching him to put the ball in the net. My brother in law is a Derby season ticket holder and calls him their worst player by a mile. OLM - great news, taken a bit longer than hoped but glad he is finally here, NB is genuinely excited about him coming, which is excellent news for me.
It would appear from the Manc ressie forums that the 5ft 11 King is no mug in the air at all - with his pace and movement he should be able to leave CB's standing at set pieces anyway. I know many wanted Sharp in but people all to quickly forget after a short barren run that Fryatt does have a goalscoring pedigree. He's on course for 15 for the season and if you take Simpson's record with city and Milwall he's probably a 10 per season striker himself, as is Mclean. I feel it is midfield and defence that need to chip in with goals more, rather than simply spunking a lot of cash on a striker simply to placate fans. Oli and King should make a difference from Corners if they are on the pitch with any regularity. Oli can score from open play also.
Being rubbish but keeps scoring isnt a bad habit to have. Never rated Owen or Lineker as footballers either. Suppose we shouldnt write anyone off.
8 goals for an average team in a season where he's had injuries. The kid has had a lot of good reviews and I just think he'll be one to watch next season, but only my opinion.
