intersting to see that he's played on the wing before. if we signed him i would seriously just drop obertan and play the kid there straight away. it can't be any worse than at present.

Ben Arfa RW for me, Shola and McLoven up front. Lovenkrands in particular reckons he can do job, give him a chance I say. He'll be good against the more 'stationary' defences, like Stoke, QPR etc.

I thought he was back in training now? that said tomorrow wouldbe too early to throw him in. i would play ben arfa on the right and vuckic playing off best against qpr. guthrie in the middle.

    A very extensive reply. Ta.

When you say "exploitable contractual situation", i'm assuming you think it's a 'dodgy' thing to do in picking up players contracts for no fee?

There is of course an element of risk in signing injury prone players but if we do get lucky ala Ba, then it's happy days all 'round.
Of course, if Ashley cashes in on Demba Ba this month, we'll all have a much firmer idea of where this club's heading.

Ashley simply isn't going to outlay the kind of money that the current top 6 clubs are doing. I would suggest that we're top of 'our' division, at least in a financial sense.

People talking about his "excessive wage demands", there is a difference. If he was to demand say 25k p/w, at Man U they would say that's silly for someone who's only a reserve player right now, but considering that here he would almost certainly be guaranteed a place in the 18 man squad, it's not unreasonable at all.

Lovenkrands is treated quite harshly IMO. He's weak as a pint of piss and as useful as a sack of **** when played as a out and out striker, but played in a role like an attacking mid or the wins, he's a good player.

Great pace, good pair of feet, passes the ball well and crosses well.

I'd not start him now, but he maybe deserves some game time.

I can't see Lovenkrands here next summer so I'd prefer to start playing a younger player like Vukic in that AM role so they start to gain experience with the team.

Benefits for the longer term and Lovenkrands not playing much this season is no real loss.

Ahead of Ben Arfa though? That's who's place he'd most probably be taking...

Our priority lies with the club, not any one player, and as OT said, I'd prefer to give youngster's experience that will serve us well, rather than keep McLoven, a player who is rumoured to be leaving in the summer, happy!

Lovenkrands has done nothing wrong this season - scored two in the Carling Cup and passed to Ba, which David Luiz should have got sent off for. And that pass was exquisite aswell

Lover's done nothing wrong but I wouldnt want him played ahead of young players in midfield, only up front. Especially as he will leave this summer or maybe even this month.

Ah dear, I'm aware that this comment will put me in the firing line for the Lover-lovers but are we really talking about Lovenkrands starting?!

I love the guy but wouldn't want him near the matchday squad.

Playing Lovenkrands is like playing with 10 men.

Lovenkrands is good on the left wing and pretty much nowhere else. I still love him though.

I don't necessarily mean it's dodgy, I just mean it avoids negotiating a fee with somebody. Something we seem to hate doing. We like to get players who have 6 months left on their deals, are free agents or have a minimum fee release clause. That way with the exception of agents fees and the likes the ball is pretty much in our park.

Problem with it is that it limits the spectrum players you can sign, and sometimes you've simply got to pay top dollar to get the quality of player required. Look at our captain (and best player) for example, you'd be going some to find a CB as good as him without putting your hand in your pockets and paying a similar fee... ie upwards of £10 million.

I can't ever see this regime paying £10 million for a player again.
