Yet more reports of a potential Carroll return and I myself have often dismissed it as lazy journalism, but could there be something in it? Local reports say we have money set aside should a player become available that we consider worth the outlay, and we would only be paying around half the money to take him back. Also Pardew has stated he would welcome him back and we are apparently now looking at strikers again. Some obvious issues in the way though, namely:
1. Would Ashley sanction a 15m + deal?
2. Will Liverpool let him go, especially as Suarez is only just starting his ban?
3. Is the risk too high? He is on a bad run of form.
4. Would he take a wage cut to return?
5. Would fans accept him?
To be clear, I actually think the story is bullshit, but for the record I think each obstacle could be overcome.
1. Reports suggest we would sanction an expensive deal if we consider it to be worth it. And the total profit from Carroll alone would still stand at £15-20m
2. Liverpool will have Suarez back shortly, and the fee they would receive would pay for a move for someone like Bent, who they have been linked with and would suit them far better.
3. We (and Ba) play our best football with a target man in front of Ba, regardless of how much better we are than last year at playing it on the floor. Not to mention he looks unmotivated/uninterested at Liverpool and returning could inspire a return to form.
4. I think he would, yes. It's down from 70k to 50k, he can live with it.
5. Yes, in time. Football fans are ridiculously fickle and I include myself in that. If Carroll came back and scored 10 goals all would be forgotten by 90% of the fanbase.
So 2 questions. Is it even possible, let alone likely? And would you like him back?

To be fair: Alan Pardew has already gone on record as saying exactly what is in those papers.
