This is absolute bollocks Chazz. There was loads of criticism about them too. Obviously people still watched them just as they will this one. People can only do so much.

Cant understand why you want to throw your weight behind defending this. You do pick some funny sides.
Maybe I just get bored of the constant negativity towards the USA
México is a fuxking ****hole and very unsafe and not hearing a thing about it

Think people just like to attack the US for some reason
The people voted for trump whatever you or others think about it
no one here is going to watch any of it
But we shall see eh

People will still watch because it's the world cup, wether at home or in the stadium that's what fans do.

Some other people select where the world cup will be held. It appears that the decision is made on how much money they can fleece off everyone rather than the practicalities, the cost to fans, and the human rights of those countries.

The unnamed source is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that, lots of mays, might ofs, possiblys and could haves too.

It's hardly a smoking gun.
I obviously have no idea if there's any truth to it or not, but what is a fact, is that his visa application was rejected twice (the US Embassy won't say why) and he was unable to fly out with the rest of the Morocco squad.

US warns foreign ‘influencers’ ahead of World Cup: creating content on a tourist visa is illegal

New regulations from the Trump administration require these individuals to apply for a visa that allows them to work legally in the country

Some people will just be anti-US, others will be fine with the country but against the stuff they've been doing recently. Of course he was elected, everyone knows that, doesn't mean he can't be criticised. Lots of unpleasant regimes have been democratically elected.

Qatar when they were criticised hid behind the line of "oh it's anti-middle east sentiment" basically gaslighting the world into feeling like racists for calling out what they were doing. You're kind of doing a similar thing for America here. There are very real issues that people want to discuss. The US and FIFA aren't the victims here. They've spent enormous amounts on getting everything their own way. The football world, fans, referees, tourists and the local public are all having to go along with everything that FIFA and Trump come up with, however it affects them. They are the victims that need a voice to stand up for them, not Infantino and Trump.

At the World Cups in Russia and Qatar there was free transport available for fans to use to get to games and fan zones. The US had committed to offer the same perk in its 2018 host agreement.

In a tweak to the agreement, made in 2023, it was decided that supporters would be charged to travel at cost value.

Russia and Qatar used the World Cup to rehabilitate their global image so they rolled out the red carpet for travelling supporters. It was shameless sportswashing with an ulterior motive but it did benefit supporters.

The US is the wealthiest, most powerful country in the world so it comes with a certain arrogance that they don’t need to prove themselves to anyone, least of all foreigners visiting their country. That’s why they’re so anti-consumer.

Been Mexico 5 times, not getting the sh1thole bit tbf, granted it was in tourist areas. Wherever you go in the world there's 'sh1tholes', just as bad here at times in the UK. But they don't have a president thats a complete cockwomble and lives off his ego.
