Last week, the BBC reported Acting Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Lauren Bis as saying the tightening of ESTAs is because "the Trump administration is enforcing immigration laws."
"Under the Visa Waiver Program, all ESTA applications are continuously vetted against law enforcement and security databases," she said.
"Travellers must provide complete and truthful information, including all criminal history."
She said the "failure to disclose arrests or convictions constitutes misrepresentation" and could lead to "ESTA denial, revocation, or a permanent bar from entering the United States."
All of that is good and prudent. No country should be letting criminals in.
However, why did I need to provide links to all of my social media accounts when I get my latest ESTA? Surely that is not about checking if I have a criminal record?
It delays the ESTA application and potentially flags you for extra screening. If they find you didn't include them but they find you do then it can lead to your ESTA being denied.
I've no idea how much effort they put into it.
At the end of the day it's their boarder and they can refuse who they want but it's not only about screening out criminals.

I want to boycott watching the World Cup but suspect I'll cave in. FIFA sickens me, as does orange man baby and his European clones. But I love football and want to support England.

Watched the Canada v Ireland game highlights LIam started the first half but was hooked in the second half. That was after he squandered a less than easy chance with his shot going way over the bar (cue whats new with that).
For those knocking one off about the referee being denied entry to the USA, any half decent Government should be in there rights to ban anybody they see fit to if that person is even suspected of having links to any terrorist organisation...in this case Al Shabab.
