I wonder how many clubs up and down the country have called their spies in, debriefed them, made sure their covers havnt been blown, and relieved them of their duties whilst handing over a thick brown envelope.

Some Soton fans are saying that Boro set them up. That it was common knowledge that Soton spied on clubs, so Boro pounced and made a big scene in 'capturing' the culprit in action. Using the cheating as a 'get out of jail free card' just in case they lost the matches.
If it was, then fair play to Boro as they have done Southampton like a kipper! Mad theory but maybe, just maybe....

Well the person who did it, the young intern, has been badly let down by his superiors.

No chance he just takes off and does this stuff on his own account. He was asked/told to do it, and there are people hiding behind him.

The coach will obviously have to go: if he's not up on what his staff are doing he's useless, and if he is, he's unfit to be doing the job. There may be other guilty people, but if there is one person who should get some leeway, it's the young lad.
he has been thrown under the bus

one fan is trying to say he's nothing to do with the club, is a student who was at the golf club....

again South Today will make for GREAT viewing

Well if Boro are that clever, that Machiavellian, they deserve to go straight up anyway!

The thing is that you CAN "spy". You can look at other teams training sessions, if you are not trespassing.

You just can't do it within three days of a match.

Are you talking about Southampton or the KGB???

The way I see it now, is that the young intern's career in football would surely be over - who's going to take him on after this?

Probably, though all he's done is what he's been asked to do and an intern can't really say no.

So if he's ostracized, so should the coward who asked him to do what he did and didn't support him. Extremely low level behaviour that.

Oh dear

Southampton's spying on rival clubs was authorised by head coach Tonda Eckert and was a "contrived and determined plan from the top down to gain a competitive advantage", an independent disciplinary panel says.

This bit here is absolutely damning...

This was not just because other teams had been spied on, but "because of the way in which junior members of staff were put under pressure to carry out activities which they felt were morally wrong", the panel stated.
