We'll get the facts about the Mandelson appointment on Monday - I assume that's because he has to tell the House first before the media.

He's confirmed he wasn't told - Sam Coates journalist asked, he uses the best words to describe my thoughts, why are you always the passenger and not the driver. Starmer just continued to repeat he wasn't told and that it is shocking and unacceptable.

Here's my one issue with it for now without the full facts, he kept repeating Mandelson had passed security vetting, he constantly used it as his joker card, but what checks and evidence did he have that Peter Mandelson had passed.

For me, it's like me employing someone who does not have the right to work here, if I haven't checked the basic requirements, it's a dismissible offence. With fines up to £45k that's just for first offence, it's higher for anymore, also on a criminal liability side it's up to 5 years in prison.

But here's the main one for me: Potential company director disqualification (up to 10 years), forced closure of business, and reputational damage.

I don't want him to go, but I don't see how he can survive it, if he's only as was put earlier a passenger in all this, it's not acceptable, it wouldn't be acceptable for any boss, just to say I wasn;t told, it's your business to know ffs.

There is no one to replace him, so let's ****ing hope what he has to say on Monday is really good, **** me I can't wait to hear it. Ed Davey is going to be like a boiling kettle. <laugh>

He’s already told parliament twice about Mandelson and both times he has been shown to be talking ****e, so I don’t see how anybody can have confidence in what he’s saying. It’s clearly a cover-up and he’ll say anything to cling on to power.

And the media will magnify any voice which threatens his position, just to propagate an endless cycle of drama. So it becomes a case of who governs, the media, the civil service, or the actual government?

I hope it’s the latter, simply because there isn’t anyone else on the political landscape at this point, capable of steering the country through extremely challenging waters.

I’m not Starmer’s greatest fan btw, and he’s made plenty of mistakes; appointing Mandelson is his biggest **** up, so it may prove his undoing. We’ll see I guess.

...but if in your analogy your HR Director has assured you that the vetting had been passed you wouldn't ask them to check again ... otherwise you are effectively doing their job as well as your own ...

I know people like to blame the media for magnifying stuff, and they obviously do but if they didn't the Tories would probably still be in power.

We all were witness to the clusterfuck that occurred when the media attention on Boris got him removed, and it done irrepairable damage to the economy thereafter.

Personally I think once a Prime Minister has been elected, I don't think they should be removed, but I apply that to all parties who win a General Election.

And my guess the route this seems to be going another clusterfuck is about to happen. Dependent IF and when Labour do put someon else in, what direction will it go.

Will Ed Miliband be put out to grass, and North Sea licenses be issued, I'm sure the back benchers would be happy, will it be someone Trump will love or hate. See the impact all this stuff has.

Anyway some good news, the Strait has been fully reopened, so no immediate panic for now. Although I think some airlines from the Netherlands and Germany have already been grounded.

I agree there’s nobody else that jumps out but Starmer is pathetic and awful as a leader. Unfortunately, if he’s ****ed up, which it looks like he has, the reasons above shouldn’t be enough for him to cling onto power.
