The number plate on my car.

It's not even an exciting car. It's a 12 year old battered Focus!

When we lived in the south of France I bought Mrs Smug a lovely black UK registered Saab convertible.

As it was a birthday present I had it outside the house so she'd see it as soon as she drew the curtains.

I'd had some false plates made that spelled KAT11Y just for fun. Before I could explain she'd rung all her friends & family saying I'd bought her a lovely car on private plates. She had such a lovely birthday I couldn't spoil her day by confessing about the plates and we ended up driving it around for two years as it was ...

... I got to like it and would never pay for parking or speed camera tickets <laugh>

Here's an option Becs

Yes, you can change your car's number plate if it has been cloned. To do this, you must report the cloning to the police to get a crime reference number, and then contact the DVLA to request a new registration number. This process helps prevent further fines or legal issues stemming from the cloned vehicle.

Steps to Take When Your Plate is Cloned:
Report to Police: Contact the police via 101 or your local station to report the clone and obtain a crime reference number.
Notify the DVLA: Contact the DVLA to formally report the cloning and request a change of registration number.
Notify Insurance: Inform your car insurance company to protect yourself against fraudulent claims or increased premiums.

You’d get away with that for about 13 mins now in these Big Brother times.

Has anyone had experience of having their car cloned?

I was driving and noticed a police car behind. Then it put it's lights on and indicated for me to pull over.

They said I'd been flagged on the ANPR system as a cloned car. They asked for my name and address and from that, knew I am the car owner.

He took details of my VIN and said if I get any parking tickets, speeding tickets or anything like that that wasn't me, then let them know.

Bit anxious to be honest as I rely on my car for work.
You see it happening on Police Intercepters a bit. Hopefully the catch those responsible and they face justice

Yes, I lived in Exeter, started relieving parking fines in London, raise a crime report with the police, late to this so someone may have already advised you of this
