Has anyone had experience of having their car cloned?

I was driving and noticed a police car behind. Then it put it's lights on and indicated for me to pull over.

They said I'd been flagged on the ANPR system as a cloned car. They asked for my name and address and from that, knew I am the car owner.

He took details of my VIN and said if I get any parking tickets, speeding tickets or anything like that that wasn't me, then let them know.

Bit anxious to be honest as I rely on my car for work.

I'd be parking on double yellows, driving everywhere at 120 mph with a mask on and saying must have been the clone!

In all seriousness though how annoying but at least the police are aware and now you are. It could have been a case of you getting all sorts of fines through and being baffled what was going on!

Blinking heck! Never heard of this before.

( Off topic like, but this sounds like The Anomaly, a book by Herve Le Tellier)

No help that mind, but good luck!

Not me personally but a mate at works daughter did. She earned fines for not paying at the Tyne Tunnel even though she didn't use it. When they checked what times she was supposed to be going through there, it was a few journeys over a fortnight between 2.30-4.00am. She still had to pay the fines because she couldn't prove it wasn't her (she lives in Sunderland and works in Peterlee, so the complete opposite direction) but the police said it was likely that her car had been cloned by an organised crime gang for whatever illegal activity they were up to in the area, and would have got rid of it soon afterwards.

Don't worry becs. The fact the Police are aware means that anything that the scrotes do that come back on you, will automatically be handled by them. It's when it starts happening and the coppers don't know about it is when people should worry - imagine trying to prove someone has cloned your car without being able to prove it.....

It'll probably be used as a community car but given the police are aware I wouldn't expect it to last too long. It'll probably be chased, crashed, abandoned and then crushed.
Anyway, more importantly, how did you let a man in uniform escape from your grasp

Bought a transit van a couple of years ago when I lived in barnsley, a couple of weeks later I got a letter through the door from tfl london saying I had went down a bus lane on the same day I had bought the vehicle and a couple of hours later. Took me a year to sort it out and I was threatened with court summons and debt collectors visiting me in my house until someone realized I lived 3/4 hrs away from where I was supposed to have been

I can prove where the car is when I'm at home. I've got a Ring camera that records me coming and going. My drive also appears to be some sort of cat highway. It's common to wake up to several motions alerts from during the night and discover they were all related to cats walking about.

During the day, I'm logged into calls all the time at work, so for example, I could prove I've just been on the Team Valley for about an hour before I came home.

If they catch any of these scrotes, can you you pass on their details? My 17 year old Nissan X-Trail Ipdm - Intelligent power distribution module has burnt out and Nissan dont supply them anymore. I've bought a secondhand one but the immobiliser recognises it's from a different car and won't start the motor

If you have a dashcam try to always have it on when you're travelling and download the footage until this is resolved.

Ask the police to keep you informed by letter, registered if you can.

Don't rely on the police too much would be my advice.
