Saints fans are like Starmer’s govt.

U turn from worst appointment since “Let’s give that young filly from Leeds a chance as PM” to the greatest appointment in history.

The reality is in there somewhere. I met a Saints fan yesterday who’d just got back from Coventry who still insisted the manager was crap!

For me, he’s still a work in progress as a manager but is clearly learning quickly. And he has me both shocked and ecstatic with each new success. I like that!

More praise. Also nice to see him being referred to as ‘the boss’ here too

We’ve got to back him big time now I feel. He’s got all the players on board & he’s proved to be so tactically astute. If we don’t get promoted and keep this team with a few additions, it would make me the most excited I’ve been since the Cortese days!

On paper Tonda was another odd appointment in comparison to others - lack of championship experience, age, lack of managerial experience, etc, etc so it's not unrealistic that the majority would be sceptical. Even the wildly optimistic (me included) had some level of doubt at times too.

Spors implied (based on content on here) that Tonda was always earmarked as a potential manager / head coach at Saints and it's only the lack of progress with WS that bought that decision forward.

So hindsight is a wonderful thing and if that is the case then Spors picked a good one and lets enjoy it while it lasts (and hope it lasts a long and enjoyable time)

On Sunday in a pub full of Reds, I watched Liverpool huff and puff against the worst Spurs team I’ve ever seen. On the way out listening to general chundering a member of my family asked what it was that Saints were doing right. This led to speculation that they should bring in our man and have a couple of old heads in to help him.

I resorted to a witty response. Told them to **** Off.

Does raise the serious question of whether Tonda’s head could be turned by siren voices. He needs to look at Frank’s move. He could do what Eddie Howe did at Bournemouth (without the relegation blip!) and build something at Saints. I’ve thought from the start he has the potential to be a good manager. I’m both surprised and delighted that he is coming good so quickly. He comes across as a decent guy and a happy bunny. He clearly respects his backroom staff and is quick to credit them with the current success. The players are playing for him.

Bloody hell, SR. Have you somehow stumbled onto something. Luck rather than judgement maybe, but we’ll take that!

I think we have to give Spors credit on this one being judgement rather than luck. Also need to hope Tonda never hears You'll Never Walk Alone and then realise his destiny was always to be there (yes, I'm still bitter, Virgil).

Tonda has a contract until June 2027 without any official extension clause so far as I can see. Has he done enough to deserve an additional two or three years? I think so without waiting to see if we make the play offs/get promotion.
