I'm proud to be English any day of the year, not just on some randomly applied "Saints" day for a man who never set foot on English soil but was picked up because he fought for God overseas quite well. **** that. Happy to celebrate England on "St Georges day", but St George can **** right off.
How ridiculous, The Jewish with a Greek name never set foot in Scotland but you don’t get Scots coming out with that crap.
He didn’t fight for God overseas and he wasn’t Turkish.

Seems bonkers to me that anyone cares enough to be defensive about a patron saint. Just so irrelevant to anything about modern life surely. Be patriotic if you like but actually giving a **** about the historic figure and being annoyed that someone may have undermined them, goodness me.

'Modern Life'?

What's that? Mocking the Church, mocking the Monarchy, mocking patriotism, mocking anyone with old fashion values, making anything or everything more difficult than need be by making everything we do via online apps, and finally, sitting and watching the environment we live in become a sh!thole...

Modern life is irrelevant to me...

Does anybody know all the dates of England,Wales,Scotland ,N Ireland and Ireland without looking online ?

To be fair, he's not mocking the church, just saying it's irrelevant to him, as it is to me. I'm patriotic but I don't celebrate St George's day as I'm not religious

People all round the world care about their Patton saints. Do you quaff Guinness on St Paddy’s Day like millions around the world who are no more Irish than I am do? Do you tell them they are sad sacks?

The Irish day is basically about a massive piss up .
Without it it probably wouldn't really be very big .

I never said that he was mocking the Church,I was referring to this 'modern life' that's taking the Country by storm.

It's entirely down to each individual if they want to have faith,it's your choice entirely but I'm seeing more and more mocking of Christianity(I've seen it on here on several occasions)and that really shouldn't be happening as that's my choice.

If I were to mock the Islamic faith I'm labelled a 'Racist',if I were to mock Muhammad, likewise. At the rate it's going with this modern life phenomonon, there won't be any churches left in 30 or 40 years, they'll be transformed into flats, pubs or mosques.(though the pub one might be pie in the sky)

The one thing I'm beginning to adapt too and advocate in this modern life is a cashless society,(not that it suits me entirely), because that will do this Country a huge favour in terms of tax revenues and the cash in hand mob will need to go legit...I reluctantly welcome it but not much else.

It's an interesting point.
If you mock / remove / ignore all those things but don't replace them with something really meaningful that people can get behind then there's a massive vacuum left. The country no longer knows what it actually is any more .... and that feels like what is happening.
The church isn't the answer as the majority see through it and have turned away, never to return.
The monarchy have self destructed and aren't really relevant to anything much anymore (other than ceremonial purposes).
Old fashion values are fading fast.
It feels like we need to define what it means to be British (or English?), what is expected of us (or conversely what can't be tolerated). But how the hell does that happen nowadays when the country is more divided than it's ever been?
I think there is an answer but it wouldn't be universally popular, and I can't go there as it veers into politics.

Indeed, there are lots of things to dislike about modern life, although I don't really care about religion being mocked personally.

I don't think any of that affects what I said though, that it's bonkers to be defensive of a historical figure from centuries ago to the point that questions about his origin provoke an angry response.

It's been replaced by utter greed and an attitude of '**** you Jack I'm alright'...that's filled the vacuum!

You don't care about religion being mocked? Which religion,Christianity,Islam,Judaism...

There'd be a ****ing frothing on here if anyone mocked Muhammad...

There are not questions about his origins. Though some daft people say he was Turkish, a country which didn’t exist until 7 centuries after his death.

I don't care about any of them. They're trivia facts to be aware of and that's about it. Also don't care if people do want to have a Guinness on that or any other day. It'd be nice if we got a bank holiday though.

Silly ****er. Where he was born is in Modern day Turkey. You're splitting ****ing hairs there for zero reason.

He's often referred to as Turkish
