If he’s not explicitly shouting some will never be convinced. Load of bollocks. If he wasn’t a good “on pitch captain” he’d have changed, simple as that. All managers have kept him as the captain.

The only argument I have for it is because he’s a full back. I’d much rather a centre back or centre midfielder
Slater took the armband on Friday when LC went off .

That'll be at least seven million pounds please.

More reason to tie his contract down.

I'd have been relatively happy for him to go last summer, particularly for a couple of million, to ease the financials

He seems pivotal now.

He'd only just be out of contract with us this summer if Westerlo hadn't taken him off our hands, there was a point where we put a huge amount of faith in him with a contract length only matched by Greaves'.

Wouldn't necessarily advocate bringing him back but assumed it was a deal to keep him close and maintain a watch on him.

Anyway, when we're in the prem next season we'll be shopping a class or three above.

Funny that a succession of managers have got it!
It's a fair point.
However, I'm clearly far from the only one that thinks this.
As said earlier, a fine club captain but not the leader on the pitch.
Maybe it's an outdated concept, or at least a currenty out of fashion one, having a vocal on the field leader as captain who organises, motivates, encourages, etc.

Have to agree. He was a cracking athlete just not very good at football.
He was only 21-years-old when we signed him permanently and was already a cracking athlete then. He just needed to improve the technical side of his game. As proven by Slater this season, it’s not too late to improve the technical side of a player’s game if he already has a good attitude and is in good physical shape.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Harry Vaughan is currently the same age Allahyar was when we signed him permanently. Vaughan is probably a better technical footballer than Allahyar even now in terms of first touch, dribbling etc. but Vaughan looks like he still hasn’t hit puberty yet. He’s small, lightweight and not particularly quick and that’s why he’s failed to make an impact in the Championship, League One and has now been shipped off to Ireland because League Two teams wouldn’t even have him. Allahyar will go on to have a decent career at the level of the Belgian and Dutch leagues or possibly higher; Vaughan won’t.

He’d be a very handy player to have on a Championship bench. Imagine you are winning 1-0 and under the cosh a bit and then you bring his pace on, gives the opposition a lot to worry about.

I do feel like we gave up on him too quick.

We did, same with Oscar, but both were casualties of us chopping and changing strategies. Rosenior didn't sign or want either and replaced them when he could, then we shifted style back to one that suited Oscar but by then he was fed up of coming and going it seemed.

I just hope that's all behind us now and we're sticking with Sergej's team and style for longer than that.

We give up on almost everyone far too quick.
