I went and read the government response in full...
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/730194
I could spend all day chatting about it, so I tend to avoid it altogether because it's easier to do so.
There are a couple of points from their response I would like to pick up on, they keep banging on about ID to work, but there are probably thousands of people in this country who are working illegally, so are we going to go about vetting everyone in a job again, and if not why not, because surely if you really want to solve the problem that is what you would need to do.
It also argues about the thousands of people who can't go about their daily lives because they don't have ID. Well maybe they are happy in the main to do that, where it becomes difficult is not because they can't prove who they are, but because businesses don't accept cash, so this will not plug any gap. I've never been asked to supply ID in day to day life, even when I was going in pubs at 16 I wasn't being asked for ID. Yes I can see in todays more totalarian world that youngsters need ID for drinking over 18 or over 25, but they already have various forms of ID for that. If this is really a problem make it a voluntary ID card to plug the gap for those that don't have any of the other forms, it don't ****ing need a mandatory one.
This also will not stop migrants crossing the channel, and it will not stop illegal workers, because they are already doing that, it just makes it easier for border force when they suddenly rock up and you'd probably still get the usual excuse of I lost it.
I'll have an ID card no problem, but don't give me this bollocks and try and pretend it's for our benefit when it's not, it;s so the government can have total control over your data, and once again, as I always say it will not stop there.
Rant over.
