I've been watching Downton Abbey recently, never seen it before and it came on Netflix!

The opening post would fit right in with their views on children and even sex outside of marriage etc...

The op bit back when I first pointed out that their post was old fashioned and questioned why they would slag her off for this!

Looks like they have now realised generally people don't judge teen mothers having children outside of wedlock nearly 30 years later when evidence would suggest they worked hard to improve their life and were a good mother!

That's how it works. Unless you inform the people doing the conveyancing of any unusual position you might be in, they just put the numbers into a basic sum and the answer comes out.

That is what happened here. Rayner used a conveyancing firm who do not employ solicitors,or any kind of tax advisers. They are just a conveyance firm.

Sadly it has made her a target for the misogynistic right. If she has done wrong she will take her punishment but The treatment Raynor and Reeves have had because they are working class lasses who have worked hard to get where they are has been disgusting.

sadly too many working class people are led by right wing media.

    Nor me.

But she has been clearly dishonest, and after loudly occupying a moral high horse for years, she cannot expect to be judged by different standards to those she has applied to others.

It has nothing to do with being working class IMO. Rayner has made a point of moral grandstanding over tax evasion and avoidance, repeatedly calling for resignations.

She has not had that bad a ride at all overall. Starmer sacked her a few years ago and was obliged to reinstate her.

I'm afraid she is hoist by her own petard.

If she has done wrong she will take her punishment.

it doesn’t hide the fact there has been a coordinated attack on her and Reeves by right wing media and of course sheep follow.

Raynor, if guilty, has a lot to learn from the real tax evaders who fund Reform,

She has to go, full stop. Not bothered about what she did when she was 16, i'm only concerned about what she does while being paid by the people of the UK...Politics in the UK is at an all time low right now, The Tories are unelectable, Labour seem out of there depth..but look at the alternative. Reform..sends shivers down my spine

Truthfully I think if she goes it’s a low for politics. I’m no fanboy for Starmer and McSweeney etc who could make economic decisions that make lives easier for people but choose not to. However Raynor is pretty much one of us and we need that life experience in the mix of senior politics. Fully agree on Reform though-corporate grifters convincing people to hate so they can avoid fair taxation. I’d tax the **** out of them in the next budget and give everyday people a few years with less suffering.

If she has fiddled taxes, it's fair she is punished for it. I'm not saying that she shouldn't be exempt from criticism for that.

My beef is with the OP for slagging her off for being a teenage single mother. Why is it necessary to bring that up? It's got nothing to do with how she paid stamp duty 30 years later.

If she'd been a man, would the fact he was a single teenage father be used as a stick to beat him with? Probably not.

I think she should be sacked just for wearing that green trouser suit from Primark.

If she’s found guilty she should be sacked, followed by any other MP from any other party who seem intent on stuffing their pockets with tax payers money.
Keep sacking them until we are left with MP’s who actually want to do the job not these parasites who run the country now.

I think the fact she has that experience is an asset. She will understand the tough decisions people on low income need to make. Not like the Eton educated fake working class who have never struggled.

So you think being an unmarried mother at 16 years old IS honourable.
It is the use of the word honourable I am addressing.

My mate was MP for Doncaster under Blair when they were in opposition.
He was going to change the world if they got in.
After 3months he was as bent as those who had just been kicked out.
All I got was, but you are allowed to do it.
    Never spoke to him again.

    Do you think its dishonorable?

    I don't!

I think its a situation that was brought about by something that most 16 year old are up to or at least want to be up to! Is it ideal situation for someone her age, not really!

Tell you what is honourable and to be admired is being in that situation and instead of choosing to give up and rely on the benefit system for thr next 16-18 years as a single parent (no judgement of people who do that either from me, as long as you aren't cheating the system by claiming something you aren't entitled to) she got herself and education and career and improved their lives!

As another poster said mps refer to each other by honourable such and such all the time, you are seeing it is a big deal but seems like its similar to passing someone at work and saying 'alright, mate!' They probably not your mate but its what you say!
