Newcastle got top 5 with one of the worst goalkeepers in the entire professional top 4 divisions with his feet. Not every team needs relies on a goalkeeper to get them playing ffs. One of the worst parts of modern football

Can you please outline which reasonable assets have been sold and replaced with loans this summer? I can't think of any, so not sure how doing that would complete the puzzle?
You only need to look at our current squad to see the trend...Sell anything that's not bolted down and replace with a free or a loanee.
Not loans, but cashing in on 2 reliable centre backs and replacing with crocked free transfers is indicative of a club that's having to raise funds to to business also.

I mean that's just nonsense isn't it haha. We're under a few restriction so of course new signings have been frees and loans.

There's plenty of sellable assets that haven't just been sold in this imaginary fire sale.

Not a firesale per se, but we are having to make difficult choices to strengthen. Don't think some of those who have left would go in an ideal world.

One man's belief,another man's nonsense.

So you're classing selling Jones, McCloughlin and Alzate as a fire sale? Sorry but I just don't buy it I'm afraid.

There's a balance to be struck here between Acun sycophancy and thinking the sky is falling in because we've sold some centre backs who'd maybe run their race at the club.

People have been saying that and wishing it to be true for about two years now.

There's been a marked rollback since forest proved you can be successful going more direct if you don't have a squad full of galacticos. And Burnley proved you can defend your way to promotion.

I'm not saying it will disappear completely, just become a tool in the box in most cases as opposed to a primary tactic.

Was reported on sky this morning that West Ham in concrete talks with some foreign keeper ( not Pandur btw) so I'm calling bollox on yet another spurious rumour.
I believe he’s Brazilian but West Ham aren’t impressed with the quoted £6m fee, so that could make sense that they’re looking elsewhere for slightly less maybe?

John isn’t it. He was a keeper in Spain Division 2 for ages ended up in Brazil and suddenly he’s worth 6 million.

Having a keeper who is good with the ball at his feet and has an eye for Hollywood passes is a bonus but shot-stopping always trumps ball-playing for a keeper, in my opinion. I would prefer for both centre-backs in a back four (or the outside centre-backs in a back three) to be decent ball-players as well but not at the expense of being defensively ****e. Lots of West Ham fans don’t rate Kilman despite him being good on the ball because he’s crap in the air and soft as ****e for a centre-back.
