To be fair, surely £5m has to be considered around peak for a keeper that can't use his feet. No clue how/if we could bring in a good replacement though
I agree there's a limit to the value due to his kicking ability. But I also think his handling is pretty special, so wouldn't be surprised at all to see him valued at more than 5m in the future ,and he can still improve. Regardless, its a good price at this stage and imagine it would be accepted if there's a chance we can bring in an acceptable alternative, I guess it would need to be a loan.
Personally not sure. I mean Alex Palmer is a little older granted, but he's English (we know that costs a premium) and is a very good and proven Championship keeper and he only cost Ipswich £2m rising to £5m £5M for a keeper at our level is a lot of money, and it would be hard to say no to even with our fee restriction.
Pandur isn’t likely to leave when we can’t sign a replacement of equal quality for free or on loan. He’s been offered a new contract which is more than he’s on now and gives him three more years. He will be a PL keeper and I can see him getting caps for Croatia in the future (his competition is tough with Livakovic as first choice, but there’s an argument to be had that he’s better than Kotarski and potentially Ivusic - over to you @Kalman II…) so it makes sense to get him tied down now. I know he’s probably going to end up at Southampton, but I’m a bit miffed that Oxlade-Chamberlain is now available on a free and we went with Akintola. Not knocking our player but I’d have preferred Ox if the wages would have been payable.
