I think we need Leeds to win, on the basis we need them to pick up points.

We could finish above Everton I think they really poor even with the little flurry of business they’ve done.

I fancy Leeds pinch that game.

If Leeds and Burnley lose too many games, we will be under threat of being Ipswich, who were competitive but had no help as everyone was taking 4-6 off bottom 2.

The more points Leeds and Burnley get, the less we will need.
Not unrealistic to think we might not care given the o going recruitment and improvement but as it stands 17th remains the objective.

17th and the FA Cup.

That makes it more dicey in my opinion and also means the games against them become critical.

I’d rather Leeds and Burnley plummet and we target Wolves, Brentford, etc …

… although you do make a good point so I’m having a think now <laugh>

Do I take it we all want Leeds to be thrashed tonight ...

... on the basis that Everton may struggle but won't go down.

I keep seeing Leeds fans suggesting it's better for both teams if they and Sunderland 'pull together'.

I've honestly no idea what they're talking about tbh.

Unless two of the 'relegation candidates' are playing each other, in which case I want draws, I'd want them to lose.

Leeds, Burnley, Brentford and Wolves, all losing on the first weekend gives us a boost imo.
Yep i want a draw or Everton win, Leeds fans have annoyed me this summer

The high % option is being able to finish above more clubs mate.

That’s the simple terms way of explaining it, more clubs at risk, more teams we can outrun.

Massive pressure if we end up in an essential head to head with Brentford or Wolves say, all it then takes is one forward to have a purple patch and you’ve got a problem.

Doesn’t that also mean there are more teams closer to us?

I mean us the fans, not the club.

Club unquestionably is. Haven’t heard a single one of our fans yet deviate from ‘just stay up’ this season.

TBH I’ve changed from that position due to the fantastic recruitment.

I’d see hoping for scraping into 17th as a bit defeatist now …

… the club are clearly not going to be content with a season long ordeal so neither am I.

Saying ‘I’ll be quite happy with fourth bottom’ sounds quite positive and chirpy whereas the reality is an absolute slog and finishing a couple of points ahead at the end of May.

Sod that and I don’t care what other club’s supporters think, I want top half even if it’s on goal difference.

I won’t say out loud where I think we gonna finish mate, but trust me it’s not 17th.

My point is, staying up IS the best all and end all season 1.

Don’t say you still believe in jinxes at your age mate <laugh>

I do not.

Ok. Based on who we’ve signed, the club videos of the great bind and the buy in from the new lads, the overestimation by many of the league (not every team is stacked) and the general feel good factor, I reckon, in my current frame of mind, we finish above

Burnley
Leeds
Brentford
Wolves
West Ham
Everton
Fulham

That’s where I have us ‘right now’

It doesn’t change that 17th or higher is all that matters this season.

I fancy us to go well in a cup.

Fancy Everton to win tonight, although their fullbacks are questionable. Grealish off the bench to get the winner.

Seeing that Leeds team sheet has just hit home how much we’ve improved. We look light years ahead of them on paper. They don’t look like they’ve got a single player that would get into our starting XI
