Omar Alderete is a 28-year-old Paraguayan centre-back who currently plays for Getafe in La Liga and is a regular for the Paraguay national team. Standing at around 6’2”, he’s a left-footed defender who can also fill in at left-back, but his bread and butter is playing on the left side of a central pairing.


He came through at Cerro Porteño in Paraguay, before spells in Argentina with Gimnasia and Huracán. His big break in Europe came with Basel in Switzerland, where he impressed enough to earn a move to the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin. After a season there, he went on loan to Valencia in Spain, where he established himself as a capable La Liga defender.
