Yeah, and here’s me thinking this summer would teach those at the club about spending beyond your means. Silly me.
He's 31 and has had 2 injuries in his career. I remember Jones having a couple back to back hamstring injuries after the promotion season too
Didn't even just cover there. He played half a season there and was one of the best full backs in the division IMO. Blackburn will be making mega £ on him within 2 years.
Come off it. This is Acun here. But the EFL will have signed McBurnie off after we've cleared some wage headroom and brought in a few mil. Their remit isn't who we sign it's making sure we can pay our outstanding commitments
With Giles back in the frame, we didn't need to, though, especially with the embargo/restriction. I'm far from convinced that signing someone who hasn't played in 2 years is the answer either.
Because of what we spent and the wages he's on, he's going to be repeatedly given chances. We aren't going to find anyone to cover all his wages or pay anything close to what we did for him so we're a little stuck. We just have to hope he comes good. He's looked better this pre season though
We did. Macca was very much a CB filling in at LB. Plus he was always going to be second fiddle here and Blackburn have held an interest for a couple of seasons now. Think he wanted to go and play in fairness to him. And if Ajayi is on a bit more than Jones, Famewo will almost certainly be on less than Macca.
We’d have been a lot better subsidising his wage and sending him on loan to league one or two and keeping Macca, who’s a much better left back and can also play centre back.
We are paying over the odds because he’s also wanted by three other teams, plus if the ban isn’t lifted there just isn’t many quality striking options left for free.
My reply to 1moreagain acknowledged the same concerns but the identity of the left back we bring in has no bearing on the fact that we would always be bringing at least one in regardless, and Macca was not a natural fit. We'd agreed a deal for Owen Beck before the embargo hit.
Is it at all possible mcburnie hasn’t dicked us about as long as all summer. We’ve had the efl all over us for weeks and it might be that we’ve had to shift players in order to finance the deal. I’m not saying he/agent haven’t maybe used the situation to their advantage (possibly). Which in all honestly we’d all do the same, he was signing on July 1st, maybe it’s us that have dicked him about as much
Id be surprised if we're paying him 45k a week, cant see the EFL approving that. But if we are, then as others have said if we bought him for a few million and paid him 25k a week most would be happy that we've finally got a championship proven striker. We've seen lots of crosses into the box this pre-season, it's a big part of the way the manager likes to play.. we now have someone decent in the box to hopefully get on the end of them. It's another piece of the puzzle in place.
Maybe it's less per week and heavily incentivised to get to more based on goals scored and appearances etc. Not my money, up to the club.
