No he’s not he’s just had multiple offers each with pros and cons. He could’ve gone to Ipswich for an easy season and a promotion bonus, Blades for a likely similar outcome but he’s come here. Also that take can literally be used for any team who’s been interested in him. He was done and dusted at Swansea over the weekend but now he’s back with us…
Because we are under restrictions. If they’ve already vetoed it once they won’t change their mind. Baz said £30k a week in the last pod
On the flip side, we've had to sign 3 players to replace Macca and Jones. Ajayi will be on more than Alfie so we certainly haven't saved a fortune. The fees received obviously come in handy but I assume they'll be used to settle monies owed.
We are under a fee restriction and enhanced scrutiny. The EFL are running the rule over everything but if we've demonstrated we can pay and have a plan in place they can't say whether we spend that on bringing one key player or 3 squad players in for the same money.
Baz has already said how they’ve vetoed it once. I highly doubt they’ll just be like nah you know what we’ll go back on it and let you pay over the odds
How can so many people know his wages even when he has signed? I've heard, I've been told etc. unless someone has leaked the contract discussions, how can anyone have heard or been told the details of a contract. Who's to say to get him (it seems like he wants to be here to have not moved to someone else whilst the EFL have done their bit) that the wages agreed are say £30k pw which the EFL are happy with and it was still more than the other clubs were happy to pay?
No,they won't, they'll be doing affordability checks. We've clearly passed on whatever the terms of this one are. We've also created headroom since the restrictions were first applied.
*He said it could eventually be worth £3m. But if Ajayi is on more, and we've had to bring in Famewo and Williams to replace Alfie and Macca, we really haven't saved much at all. Assuming we've got a £2m fee for Alfie, over 3 years (for example) that's £700k a year (approx) which equates to a player on just less than £15k a week. That's before we deduct any sell on fees etc for Alfie. Considering we've had to bring in an additional player to replace the 2, and Ajayi will be on more, that £2m can easily be eaten up. I appreciate Macca's fee ain't included but it was **** all anyway.
We've replaced them with frees and banked the fees. Both players fully amortised too so effectively clear profit.
But we’ve had to replace one player with two players, neither of which are as good. It’s terrible business whichever way you look at it.
And this is the part that gets overlooked. We might have banked the fee, but it'll be paid over a few years and that fee will fundamentally just cover the extra player we've had to sign. This merry-go-round in defence all started in Jan when we panic signed Egan & we didn't need him. Good player and everything but won't be cheap and he's 33. It's like you're ignoring that we also have to sign a LB too as Macca covered there fine.
We were always going to be bringing in a left back or 2. Giles renaissance has meant it's only had to be 1.
For £25-30K-a-week, McBurnie is a good signing. Anything more than that and we’re paying over the odds.
Moaning in here. We’ve signed a decent Championship proven striker. It’s better than signing Omur or Sinik for 3/4 million and paying them 25k a week.
