Do you know the difference between a ginger and a brick?

    A brick gets laid.

I was told that by a ginger haired colleague.

Plus Joe Aribo was playing for the opposition so no surprise Frankfurt won the final tbh.

Hurzeler hadn't won anything, came from St Pauli, had never managed in a top league and is even younger than Still.

I am reliably informed that the use of the word Ginger constitutes a hate crime. I wonder if McVities know this.

Think most fans either fall into “get someone a bit boring with experience” or “let’s keep trying to find the next Poch”. Doesn’t feel like there’s much middle ground. Someone like Rohl is inbetween to a degree as he does have 18 months experience in the league so whilst a risk, a bit less so than Still. Sounds like we aren’t his first choice so it’s do we wait and see where the dominos fall over the next month or so and hope we get him, or do we change direction and get someone in sooner?

The only really experienced managers I can think of off the top of my head who fit the bill are Cooper and Dyche. No chance Dyche manages a club as southern as Saints I think, pretty sure been reported before that he doesn’t want to move from wherever he is living now, and there will be options for him in the nearish future.

Cooper is a weird one in that he seems like the perfect manager in terms of what we are after right now but there have been no links that I’ve seen. Was that thing about turning Norwich down but we are a step above them I’d say with parachute payments so maybe he thinks he can wait for a PL job to come up and not interested in a Champ job yet.

Not so sure. The level he played at is irrelevant, as has been proven by countless successful managers that weren't elite players. And he has managed 3 seasons at a higher level than the championship.

I don't really like the appointment but not because of his experience or stature in the game.

And it's the experienced and successful players that the fans don't want: Rooney, Gerrard, Carrick, Lampard...

If we get recruitment right, then pretty much any manager would get us top 6. If we're not in top 6 in December, then get someone else in.

I can't see us being top 2 unless we have a brilliant window.

Really feeling quite positive about Still though. If Russ could get us 4th, Still should be able to.

    So across Saints social media, attributes for a manager to make the shortlist are;
    1) A former experienced and successful player, but who hasn't pissed the fan base off when they were playing
    2) Someone who's successfully managed in both the Championship and Prem, brucie bonus points for CL/EUEFA experience
    3) Someone who plays attractive football but isn't wedded to a "philosophy"
    4) Someone who knows how to coach a defence
    5) Someone who knows how to coach a midfield
    6) Someone who knows how to coach the forward line
    7) Someone who's going to be massively successful but won't leave us because of said success
    8) Someone who isn't the cheap option
    9) Someone who's not too expensive
    10) Someone who hasn't even met Ankersen.

    Should be easy enough

I agree with Adam Blackmore's comments about Will Still. It seems more of a risk than Jones and Martin. Not sure about this ar all. It seems typical left field SR appointment .

If we go for Still , the fans will not cut SR any slack if it goes wrong. Why take the risk ? I want to see how Still performs elsewhere before we make an approach. A potential for the future but not what we need now.

If we see how he does elsewhere it may be to late for us if he is any good. Personally I have a good feeling about him if he comes here.

I think Still has 3,4,5,6 but 7 is a very rare to find these days outside of the top six or seven.

Personal terms agreed with between Saints and Will Still; final point in negotiations is compensation for the staff he'd like to bring with him

Ok, no point in moaning now it looks like the deed is done, I wish him every success here and hope that the football is as good as some reports suggest.
