Our problem, the human race that is, believes it is the primary species, the main principle of the universe, well ok, let's just say Earth, we are not. Our brains allow us to think we are something greater than we really are, we are not, we are nothing, we like all other species are just the tenders of nature, in simplisitc terms the worker.
Just because we believe we are top of the chain does not make us any greater, quite the opposite I think. In comparison to the size of everything we can possibly see and that for which we cannot, we are but a mere spec of dust and not even that, see Carl Sagan for more detail.
I've never really understood human logic of why we think we are part of the almighty in the sense we believe we are. Maybe in the next life we get an upgrade in a multiverse, although it's more than likely in such an event we come back as those we failed to protect.
In reality we will all become dust, we return to the soil to be consumed and regurgitated by nature, the cycle of billions of years commences all over again, but in what form who knows, star dust once the Sun consumes our little blue dot...
