Oh come on. I can take people saying his distribution doesn't matter as long as he's making saves, but not that. It's not about whether he puts the ball into touch occasionally, not even about not making mistakes with the ball (which should be the minimum we expect). Pandur doesn't contribute to our buildup, because he takes too long to play a pass and because he doesn't help create anything further forward with a long, positive pass. He does and has saved us from losing games by making good saves, but in an ideal world he'd be helping us win games by contributing with his feet.

So he's bad at the stuff LR wanted from a GK?

I thought Pandur kicking the ball into touch might have been a tactic in the latter stages of the game against Portsmouth.

It ran the clock down more, and while it gave possession to Portsmouth, we set up to let them throw it backwards to their full backs and centre backs.

They were so slow in their distribution from the back and we just cut the options forward off and left full backs and centre backs free to pass between themselves. You heard a bit of unrest from the Portsmouth fans and eventually they would lump one forward which Egan, Jones, Hughes and McLoughlin lapped up all day long.

I think Sellés tactics at the end removed the feeling of jeopardy. I felt really calm in the latter stages and think it was due to this ‘kill the game’ tactic.

This wouldn't surprise me because it's pretty evident that our kick off routine is done knowing that we'll likely win a throw-in deep in the opponents territory, which shows Selles thinks in that kind of way.

It's a bit odd how most people say his shot stopping is good but his distribution is rubbish while the statistics above say the opposite. Best in the league for accuracy.
Because he doesn't attempt more ambitious passes very often. If you just look at long passes (more than 40m) then he's 19th in accuracy, and in number attempted per 90 he's 46th, or if you rule out goalies with less than 5 90 minutes then he's 35th.

I think what I deduce from your continued whining about pandur is

Pandur's short passing is for the most part tidy and considerate, in that he passes the ball for players to step in to it. It's an annoyance I have with our CBs who tend to play passes that force the receiver in to having to control the ball and then think about what they're doing with it.

He's is a great shot stopper, he catches things others can't and prevents parries etc making the job much easier for himself and the team. Although his short passing is decent, he lacks a bit of vision and creativity in his short/mid range passes but tends to stay within his competency which is a good thing. His long passes aren't great or very powerful which is something he really could do with improving to go on at a higher level.

What about Coyle, Drameh & Burstow?
Coyle & Drameh- Keep,
Burstow- Loan out.

Coyle and Drameh were (once organised by someone who wasn’t a mad German) part of the fourth best defence in the league. Just let that sink in…

4th.
Best.

Whether you like this or not, those simply are the facts. Plus, too much disruption and we’re back to square one!

As said above, I suspect he's best in the league because for the first third of the season he and our CBs made about 80% of our passes.
1/3 of the season
Plus are we the only team that has a keeper passing short to defenders a lot? Nope, most do the same.

I agree about Coyle - it’d be foolish to move him on. At the very least he’s a good squad player. I’m less sure about Drameh though.

The bigger question though is can they be part of a defence that good whilst the team also improves in attack? Next season we’ll have to stretch ourselves further rather than digging in as much - so the defence will have a different job to do.

Would it not be wiser to activate the option to try sell him for somewhat of a fee? I guess if he gets injured in pre season we are stumped though…

Definitely not. Wisest course of action is to cut him loose and get his wages off the books. If anyone wanted to buy him they would have bought him last summer when we no doubt would have been happy to sell.

The talk about Panda's distribution being poor is ridiculous. Yes, he put a couple out of play, don't all keepers? Has he misplaced a pass and put us under pressure, yep, as all keepers nowadays do. BUT these aspects have improved out of all recognition, particularly since Tim left.
As for the goal on Saturday, nobody seems to be mention what a good strike it was, hit with real power. He'll be disappointed he didn't save it of course.
He's our PofTY and our PPofTY. He was also on the bench for that Championship team of the season. All for very good reason. Also a top lad from the bits we see, who clearly loves being hear.
Is he a world beater? No (not yet). Has he turned out to be a very good keeper for this level? Without a doubt. Give your collective heads a wobble.

It's no more ridiculous than saying he kept us in games. He made some saves but as a keeper that's his job. How many of those saves were worldies.

Pandur is rightfully player of the season but he is also massively over rated. He's player of the season in a team that stayed up by the skin of their teeth. How many clean sheets did he keep?
