Surely some drunken fools would do it for exactly those reasons.

He looked a big guy, to be fair. Left a shiner on Tommy Coyle. The guy who started it looked bloodied up by the end of the video outside Empress.

Still, doesn’t matter how big you are, it’s not wise to start a scrap with a professional boxer even if you get a sly dig in first.

If any face was snorting coke in the city centre don't you think in these days of mobile phones and every man and his dog having a camera that someone wouldn't have taken a snap of them doing it by now?

Footballers may have a reputation for being a bit dim but I don't think, if they were indeed doing it, they would be doing so in full view of the public and their smart phones.

So no, there wouldn’t be videos of them sniffing it.

I know nothing of this so called incident and have seen nothing on social media, perhaps because I'm not on it. But it doesn't surprise me. Not that I'm saying Lewie Coyle is a loose canon by any stretch of the imagination. I have met Lewie socially and his brother Tommy and I have a lot of time for both of them. Lewie especially and the work he does with his soccer schools and if he is good enough to get picked for Hull City, week in week out, then he has my admiration, because it's something I could only dream of doing but never achieved, besides, I like the fella.
But City players getting abuse in the city centre is nothing new, if fact City supporters get it too, maybe not so much these days but I remember well when you had to wear a gum shield if you supported your local club before a trip into town on a Saturday night. There are a lot of pricks out there, in the old days when City were in the lower leagues the biggest gobs were the local lads who played a bit but never made it with any professional club and any local lad who actually played for City was spot ball.
Mention no names but I remember meeting one City player, big lad too, ( this is going back some) local lad who was reduced to tears from the dogs abuse he got one night in town. Maybe some of you younger ones don't remember Frankie Bunn, our leading scorer at the time and a fine player getting his jaw broken one night in Waterfront Club. It was said Billy Whitehurst had to go round and sort that one out, don't know if that actually happened but the broken jaw certainly did.
It's bad enough showing your face and colours sometimes in this city in certain pubs and any face that actually plays for the local club is going to attract attention if they want it or not. It happens everywhere, in every city.
In the Premier League days City players used to go to Leeds for a night out, except Bullard apparently.
And the those hinting that sniff might be involved are totally out of order.
Last sentence spot on!!

It seems to be a popular misconception that any trouble caused by anyone nowadays is down to the old Columbian marching powder. If this is Coyle in the incident,it's more than likely that some little twat tanked up on Stella Artois has insulted him to a point where he's lashed out and gave the mouthpiece a thick lip for his trouble?

Footballers are easy targets for abuse in most City Centre's and the ones with common sense tend to steer clear of City pubs.I've seen the odd incident in Glasgow City Centre with Rangers/Celtic players or staff copping for stomach churning abuse,in fact I stepped in one time when Neil Lennon and his Mrs were sitting eating a meal in a posh Glasgow West end restaurant and some young Rangers supporters started on him and her.(I'm no fan of Celtic but I'm a great believer in people being able to socialise with their loved ones without getting beat up)...

If it is Coyle then perhaps he needs to re- think his watering holes,he shouldn't have to,but I'm afraid it's the only way to live a quiet life for some 'celebrities '...
