Whoever buys us next probably will be a consortium. We won’t have an owner doing a populist ‘Farage in the pub’ routine and the board will be boring businessmen but at least there might be competent leadership and a clear chain of command with a DoF.
I suppose time will tell regarding the exact finances. I wouldn’t be surprised if we are more in debt and it’s a **** show if we go down I probably worded my original post poorly. I mean that we’ve had a recent habit of including clauses in loans tying us to players as I imagine they’ve gambled on the player being good or the club itself performing well. They’ve not really considered the situation we are in. Take Giles for example. We obviously really wanted him. I assume we either couldn’t get the deal done without an obligation to buy or we may have gambled on him being good. Either way we’ve been burdened with an under performer who was vying for a move out and it’s blown up in our faces as we couldn’t negotiate a similar deal with Boro to get him out. Sunderland took Le Fee on loan with an obligation IF they went up. We seem to be the only club putting obligations in that can have an element of gambling in them.
We simply wanted to buy Giles but shifted the fee into the next year for PSR purposes. At the time everyone thought he was one of the best LBs in the division. Turns out he just had a cracking season at Boro.
Stats confirming the eye test that Slater hides away from the ball and does **** all with it in possession. Proper plodder.
I get that partially. But it’s a problem in itself realistically. We could’ve probably negotiated a fair loan with an option or an obligation if we went up etc. Instead we did burden ourselves with him. Granted it’s with heavy hindsight but we’ve done it again with Puerta based on games played. My gut instinct is they thought he would be one that would be gradually brought in but with injuries and suspensions he’s played more thus triggering the clause
Or why did we spend £5m in January only to supposedly tell half the first team 1.5 months later we can’t afford them and they need to find new clubs. It doesn’t make any sense
Yeah anyone who thinks those at the top have foresight and are not willing to change at the drop of a hat aren’t really seeing between the weeds Acun said when he appointed Selles he went that direction instead of Alex Neil as he wasn’t scared of relegation.
Key word supposedly. We don't actually know the detail. We do however know we have too big a squad and that Selles wants to work with a smallish squad, because it's been openly said from the off. So no big issue, no news, just something to dramatise about and to kick the club about if it suits.
You don't tell players you need they have no future with 7 games left in a relegation battle. You have those discussions at the end of the season for a reason.
Baz hit the nail on the head in his post derby live stream. You've had the coaching and local staff recruiting to one template and then at the same time the owner doing his own thing. Hence recruitment ultimately being expensive, disjointed and unsuccessful.
Yep that’s why we wasted time signing Lincoln and Amrabat (who has since proved us wrong) in Jan when we could’ve signed a striker with a bit more nouse
Yep, Longman was the only player at the club that I backed to have a **** game then randomly smash one in from 30 yards. He was looking decent on his return from injury
When we debate how personally involved Acun is in football decisions and whether it's right. Surely one of the biggest red flags on that is when he first took us over, sacked the manager and appointed someone with basically no relevant experience or qualification but who he was a personal friend of. At the time with the takeover being so needed and so welcome we accepted it but it always looked strange. You had to just let him get on with it and see how it went, people felt that McCann probably wasn't the man long term anyway. But in isolation that decision was completely ridiculous, and it was a sign of things to come on the football side.
I don’t think it’s ever really stopped either. We’ve constantly done things for the club he’s close to. Overweight Tufan - worked out in the end but looked very dodgy at first. Sinik - signed at a dinner party where the Antalyaspor president was. Lincoln - completely unnecessary signing Omur - supposedly Rosenior was very happy to sign him after seeing him in pre season, im not so sure. Then the random fenerbache u21 who came on loan for a season? Amrabat - brother plays for Fenerbache Estupinan - brother/agent was on the set of his survivor tv show. Absolutely comedy show
