Bora Aydınlık. There really should've been more serious questions asked about that one. No one ever explained what the point of that deal was or why it was in our interest. I have never heard of the idea of loaning a player from one youth team to another. What did it cost us and why did we do it? Those are absolutely fundamental questions for such a bizarre deal and I have absolutely no idea of either.
That one seemed like us trying to be Brighton without really understanding what we were doing, and without really committing to it.
after him though, we've signed two other south americans they may not be linked, but maybe its the same scouting network
Baz was reporting at the time that it was not an expensive signing just an arrangement similar to a sort of exchange programme for the youngster,.just with none of our kids going the other way. I think it's prudent to not over-analyse and be looking for things to be critical of - there's enough that's obvious to justify the discontent anyway, and if Baz's version is true on Bora (we don't have evidence to the contrary) it's not really a big deal and might have had the potential to lead to something.
same with celi he probably cost peanuts, and if he turned out good, then brilliant hes a bit of a nutter and not so good in the end
There is that. But of 3 south americans signings, 1 never set foot in Hull, the other got banned for a year and we've probably overpaid for the other.
i still dont understand why we are not operating in the japanese market especially over the last 5 years, many players from the j league have come to europe and been decent, and theyre almost always cheap j league is a very fast paced league, so they never struggle for the athletcism side of the game
Maybe a tad controversial .....I love Amrabats effort .... but, I don't think he's proved us wrong (other than in terms of doubting his commitment). Like Lincoln, he was never part of the answer to what we really needed in January. Ridiculous signings, along with Joseph. They weren't and aren't the answers to any questions being asked. Absolute sods law that the 2 signings that could have been answers (Matazo and Barry) both got injured. As said the other day, it's like our season is utterly fated.
No idea what the thinking was, but it seems it was little more than a student exchange type thing, I don't really think it's of any significance. The Celi one was more weird.
I didn’t expect Amrabat to contribute anything positive. He’s had a MOTM and set up an equaliser that got us a vital point
Agree, although the Celi one was no big deal either. A relatively minor gamble that could have paid off massively, but unfortunately didn't.
His motm voting simply tells us all we need to know about our performances. Absolute peach of a pass it was, no doubt. Point still stands. I'm not knocking him, not at all. He, Lincoln, Joseph were never the answers.
I have no problem with bringing in an experienced head in the Huddlestone/jayjay/Sharp role as they contribute off the pitch as much as on it, but obviously it depends on the outlay. Amrabat probably has been justified as long as it hasn't cost an arm and a leg, and we needed short term cover for injuries to wide players anyway. I wouldn't be too pissed of if we offered him another year, again depending on cost as we probably won't be getting the ACL's fully up to speed until Xmas. Long term absentees usually end up with setbacks, niggles and muscle injuries on the way back to full match fitness anyway.
In different circumstances I'd agree. In the circumstances we were & are still in it was 3 wrong , daft signings. And now we're starting with 2 of them (even all 3). Barmy.
If they're starting, then surely they're better than we have and therefore justifying selection? It's difficult to do a cost vs benefit assessment though as we don't specifically know what the outlay is on each of them. Do think it's difficult to justify 2.5m for Joseph though and that one doesn't strike me as an Acun signing.
In someone's mind. Not mine. Yep, I know he's forgotten more about football than I've even known, but that doesn't make him infallible...and the fact that we're back in the bottom 3 and at great risk of going down due to his more recent game plans, selections, etc maybe gives my opinion on this point some weight?
