In as much as we can be certain about anything that we read - we know that Salah had multiple approaches from Saudi, all of which he turned down. Virgil too had other offers. Both wanted to stay put. Where was the risk? Just because deals are done in what could be considered the last minute, doesn't automatically mean there was any risk involved.
We're all just speculating, but my speculation would be very different to mito's. I think the club would have panicked months ago if they really felt that there was a high risk. It looks to me like they were fairly confident that agreements could be reached and it just took time to iron out deals that suited all parties. It looks like it all went fairly smoothly and it's only fans who think we should be constantly informed of progress that are miffed about it. Whatever the truth is, the job is done, so I see no point in anyone continuing to look for faults.
Agreed. It's possible to make up any scenario to explain an outcome. None of them being what actually happened. It's all good fun speculating, it's what this thread is for, like you, I don't see the point in running with a negative option when you don't have to
Again with the "negative" stuff. As I said risk is an uncertain future event. It's pretty clear that there was a significant risk taken. This is all 20/20 hindsight stuff.
What are you talking about - again, with the negative stuff ? - I've barely been involved in this particular debate. Both in a general case and a specific case, it's easy to speculate what may have gone on before an outcome was reached. Outcomes can be positive or negative. It's easier to make a case for a negative approach for a negative outcome but not so much when the outcome is positive, so I'm questioning why look to negative factors when the outcome is positive as a generality not necessarily aimed at you. You've decided that this was an 'uncertain future event' and also that risk was taken. For all we know there may have been a decision made to hold out on announcements about renewals to give the fans an extra happy and appreciative end to the season. Holding out on revealing good news about something you know is going to happen to make the recipients of the good news even more happy and/or grateful. See, that's another possible, no matter how unlikely, scenario.
There clearly was a risk since they were free to speak to other clubs but accept what you're saying; player and club being confident of all agreement. Salah talking to the media doesn't fit this agenda though. I do think VVD and Salah being signed up first only goes further to cement Trent is leaving. Those two were the more expensive deals so why leave TAA until last?
Every time I say anything I get the same thing. "Negative" No matter how real something is i get the same thing for daring to say something.
It's only a risk if the club doesn't know that both players want to stay. They clearly did know that their first choice was to stay, otherwise we are in a permanent state of risk with every player. (That may be a fact if that's how one views it) I think when we don't know the reality of the situation, we can choose whether or not we see it as a risk. I'd forgotten about Salah with his 'more out than in' comment. that could be seen as him forcing the club's hand but again you can choose to see that how you like. Maybe he was going for the fan sympathy vote.
Not from me. At least it's not something I make a habit of. I've agreed with you on lots of what could be called negative comments, for instance, Slot not seeming to fancy the Academy players. We all say what we like. We also have to be prepared for being called out or just name called for very little reason. You've had lots of goes at me for 'believing everything I read'. I can honestly say that I was getting quite paranoid around you at one time because you'd not just rubbish everything I said, but you spoke to me as if I couldn't think for myself. We are all intelligent individuals on here who should be able to say what we think about a situation and take the flak from others who don't agree. On most subjects not football related, I'm in a group of one. I say my piece and just get on with it. I've had what I would call real abuse very few times and in those instances, I take a break.
The club could never be 100% certain they would stay no matter how much the player says they will. Whilst under contract, and more than six months left, the club can refuse to let them leave. The club have zero control once they did months or less left. Doesn't take much for most players heads to be turned.
That's funny, I was answering your post and another paragraph jumped in. Everything you've said here is correct. I still can't see the risk in the 2 players we're talking about though. Maybe because I had a strong feeling they would stay.
Like I mentioned yesterday - months ago when we really started to discuss this I said I thought both Virgil and Mo would stay and that Trent would leave. I wasn't the only one to say this. I can't claim I was certain of it, but it just felt that way. All the subtle noises indicated that those two wanted to remain here whilst Trent's talk of Ballon d'Or and such made it look like his head was turned. I'm happy that V&M have signed, but not greatly surprised - I'd be very surprised if Trent was here next season.
Go back and see the people who were slating the club, including you - they/you all have hindsight. ow go back and see who was calm and trusted the club. They had foresight. there’s a massive difference my friend.
I think what was a consensus was every time salah scored another goal people asked why have they not sorted it. Or every time salah spoke out most people were "give him what he wants." I'm not sure but I don't think too many said oh I don't think giving him a new deal is wise.
I know, I’m not a fool……my point is lost on you, clearly. Look, you’re entitled to your opinions like everyone on here but don’t ignore the many voices who were calm and then dismiss their correct predictions and trust in the club as some sort of lucky guess. You will lack any credibility at all if the only opinion you think is right, is yours. I’ll leave it there.
Direct quote from last month prior to cup final "Do we have a good recruitment team? Nobody knows. We can't know except by their results. One terrible buy (chiesa) and 0/6 on contracts. Salah Vvd Trent Jaros Konate Diaz" Right now hughes has secured 2 of the 6 who's contracts are expiring this season and next. Chiesa is still a terrible buy Now we will need to see what the next part of this is. New contracts? Players being moved on? Trent decision?
