Why the club chose to wait so long is still a mystery.

Maybe waiting this long minimises the amount of money paid out. Who knows.

But again this buys time.

You know who's playing cb next season but have to get on with getting the next stages done.

Konate contract? gomez replacement? Long term vvd replacement?

We have 12months grace in this issue now.

Need to solve the full backs first this summer I guess.

Or maybe it's just normal procedure and it's only impatient and entitled fans who assume we should be informed of the process blow by blow and want it done yesterday.

Nah.

Standard practice is get it done a year ago and not risk losing both.

It looks like both players have basically gotten massive pay hikes to stay.

Said at the time I’m not sure club could have done it any sooner.

18 months length is when you’d normally look at it, and then klopp says he’s leaving. No chance anything happens in next 6 months until new manager comes in.

Slot then joins and rightly so the players will want to see where club is at and slot will rightly want to assess them.

6 months in and it’s January and we’re doing well and no doubt talks start up then but lots of noise about can now talk to other clubs.

Suddenly lots and lots of noise about TAA while in middle of title run in.

Salah and vvd doing stuff in background and no doubt terms were being discussed for a while however announcing things while huge noise about TAA makes it even more obvious.

Yeah would have been nice but it sounds like vvd ans Salah wanted to stay, club wanted them to stay so really there was no huge rush. No point either side rushing a deal, take time, get it right and announce at a nice time.

It’s interesting comments vvd been making last couple weeks. In regards to big summer, big expectations etc.

After quite last one, do wonder if part of the delays were talks about how to improve squad going forward to ensure constantly competing in these next 2 years to add to the trophy haul.

Hell go down as a legend already for winning everything but a big different if you can add another prem, a cl and maybe a couple of cups to that trophy haul to add some gloss onto it.

Im sure he has been given all sorts of assurances about things but I'm also sure he got everything he asked for in the end.
 
Virgil recently watching his daughter in the school play "There wasn't any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family".

He has always expressed his love for the club, the city and the fans, Salah similarly. It makes such a difference to have players who want to be here. Those two have cemented their legend status now, if they hadn't already.
 
Quite a few on here should be eating humble pie methinks. Anyone prepared to put their hand up and say they were wrong and, actually, the club or staff haven’t completely ****ed things up!?

I suppose now, if we don’t sign isak, we’ll be run by muppets. Again.

I worry far more about the games than signings
I would have been gutted to lose them but no one is bigger than the club

in fact I am a bit more worried we have signed them in certain respects <laugh>

It depends who you read as to what the wages are. One reliable source says that Virgil's new contract doesn't include a pay cut and that he remains on a previously agreed salary. Quite frankly, nobody, except those involved, knows the exact figure. Do we believe the amounts that the city players are reportedly on? Salah has turned down a massive contract from Saudi and Virgil had other suitors who would probably have been offering a huge salary. All dependent, of course, on what gets into the media and if we believe any of it.

we will know soon as all contracts have to be passed to the FA .

or one more player sold than signed <ok>

either way, we kept two of the best players in the league - we will lose Trent probably but it’s what he wants, not what we want.

now we need to sign a few players too.

a proper 9 or at least a central forward.
A #6 (we need to rotate)
A LB Robbo’s legs have gone
A RB Trent will go
A CB we need depth here and a LT replacement for VvD

we will/might move on

Nunez (I love the effort but the end result isn’t there)
Endo
Kelleher
Not sure on others but Gomez, Elliott, Robbo/tsimi could be lined up for sale

5 in, 5 out.
