Maybe if we had a title-challenging team, then we could afford a luxury player like that. But we're not. We're largely a Championship-level squad, desperately trying to survive against teams far, far superior. We need to get the most out of every single player.
We were always led to believe that the club had no choice with Romeu. Turns out that was bullsh*t. What a f*cking terrible decision that was.
This is what I mean about a pragmatic manager adapting to the oppo. I'm sure that there were occasions when more direct aproach would suit better and TP could start but from a footballing perspective I think that generally Archer fits the system better. Like CGL says we haven't really played to either's strengths very often although we had the January to possibly add a striker had we been in the mix to stay up.
I don't remember anyone saying the club had no choice. As I remember it, we were told he wanted to move back home (was he about to have a child?) and pushed hard for the move and that, after all he'd done for the club, the management didn't think they should stand in his way.
I do think he was SLIGHTLY hard done by. He could and for me should have had some better results - **** VAR. having said that, listening to Lineker rattling off his records for passes almost had me nodding off just remembering it. He should have challenged that philosophy because having bednarek and thb on the ball for an hour is worthless if we can’t manage to form a shooting chance. I don’t understand how he could still believe that there was no better way to approach this season. Lineker seemed to think he could do a job with better players. I have to say that I think he might be right. In hindsight sacking him was a failure and I am disappointed in myself for wanting him gone. It made naff all difference and next season we will be rolling the dice instead of going in with stability and continuity.
yeah, he was a great servant and went back and had a fantastic couple of seasons. Wouldn’t have wanted to deny him that after the years he gave us.
Just checked it 23 league goals from 42 games and league leading scorer and could hardly get a game next season due to arrival.of KK
Not that I'm impatient or anything but I'd really like to know when our game at Goodison is kicking off so I can sort travel and accommodation.
As it is you, they will probably say they are keeping it as it is, then VAR will come in and move it to Monday night
Just think it's taking the piss a bit if not announced today. It was originally meant to be last week and the match is 5 weeks away - we'd normally have released ticket details by now.
I've never got the accusations of 'arrogance' with Russ I think he has a way he wants to play and that's that He has to be 'confident' that he can achieve something doing things the way he wants, and the players have said they liked playing his way The fact he needed to tweek that philosophy for this season is difficult to argue with, but he still would have had a poor squad Interesting to see what happens in his next job P.S. I've have however gone right off, playing this way as it would end up with us playing like City, who I find the most boring EPL team to watch I want us to play like Arsenal
The annoying thing about Russ is that if he had played a bit differently and cut out the howlers by insisting we piss about 5 yards from the goal line then he may have still been here. We’d still be bottom 3, but maybe not bottom or on less than 11 points. Be close though.
