I've really grown to like Baz. He tells it as it is, basically this is a xxxx team lacking skill and commitment. Running around getting nowhere, passing sideways and backwards looking for inspiration from someone else doesn't fool anyone. The problem for me is the recruitment, too many journeymen signed probably at a knock down price. I think they'll scrape home and then hopefully plan a summer clear out. https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/spo...ews/another-abject-hull-city-display-10088182
we just have a bunch of players who dont really do anything no directness in the team no pace no skill just very very very journymen like we couldn't even score a goal like watford last night becasue we have none of that pace, speed, urgency and directness
I think the thing that's making us 'competitive' in every game is the same thing thats hindering us at the top end. We are so narrow and it stops us from stretching play. When we do go out wide, teams generally have plenty of players preventing overloads or stopping us from getting to the byline. And because at the other side of the pitch our winger will have moved inside, it frees up there backline to shift over, this also congests the centre so we can't do much there either. It's a difficult one because if we try to change this then we start getting caught more in transition and become less 'competitive' at times. All in all it means we're relying on mistakes, set pieces etc to score which is less than ideal. I do have this feeling that we're due another Sheff Utd situation where things just go our way, but thats earned by starting fast and winning the ugly battles which has disappeared over the last few games. This is the first thing that needs fixed and the thing that will keep us up.
Elder is everything wrong with the modern game from a commitment perspective. Out on the piss all the time and barely ever trains as he always milks niggles
If ya read my post in particular the highlighted part by you I said ' we CAN get out of this through hard work and graft' not we WILL. The results we've picked up most recently hasn't been through skill levels, we've hung in games long enough to pinch them, that's what I was alluding to, my fear is the lack of creativity, which emphasises how very little chances we get per game, which in turn leads to snatching of chances. Whether we will get out of it is down to the player.
Interesting and surprising claim. You wouldn't have known it from his performances on the pitch. He was always available, always stood up to a challenge and was really reliable defending the back post under pressure. I've always wondered why Rosenior wanted rid of him, it never really made sense to me and as others have said, we've not improved on him since. If what you say is true then maybe that's why.
I meant holding midfield. Since the Matazo injury we’ve got Alzate, Slater and Puerta to cover 2 positions. We’ve got plenty of number 10s but none Selles would trust to play deeper
Yep. Telling it as it is .... except that we can't go into bottom 3 before Monday, only after our game on Monday if results go against us and we lose by 4. Still, shows how tight it now is and how precarious our situation is.
One thing I would say in support of Selles in relation to our boring and depressing football of late is that this is how it often goes when a manager has to turn around a crap team. That first season often is about tightening things up and getting results without being adventurous. Then after a proper summer they open up a bit. Rosenior was very much that way. I certainly agree that it's been pretty crap to watch lately (arguably for a long time in fact) but I think the job to judge him on now is simply keeping us up. Once he does that, we can then start judging him by the quality and expansiveness of the football from next season.
I think we are one of the better teams in the league at playing out from the back. We no longer ‘invite the press’ and hold onto the ball forever, we make the pass forward when possible. All our defenders and goalkeeper are comfortable in possession. Alzate had brought composure to the middle of the pitch which helps this ball retention further. Our biggest issue is that we lost our wide men capable of going past a player. Gelhardt does it to an extent but losing Millar, Belloumi and Barry has robbed us of getting at teams. Pedro has had to feed off scraps as a result. If we stay up we don’t need a massive rebuild. Get Barry back, and get the other wingers 2 fit. Bring in 2 new first choice full backs a new striker and I don’t think we’d be far off being done. 4 key signings and then just buy elsewhere if it improves on what we’ve already got.
Tend to agree ....but can't help think that, in spite of shortcomings in the squad, he has a plethora of options available in midfield and attack and should by now be showing more in terms of our attacking play. We seem to have gone backwards (no pun intended). The last 3 games have been nothing short of dire in that respect. And that simply isn't good enough.
