After only his first year playing he was put forward for trials for Durham and he has just found out today that he had been successful and had to go through on Friday night to collect all the gear he needs. Proud as punch for him and can't wait to get back home to give him a big hug (at Cheltenham at the moment).
Not a bad way to start nets before the new season starts :emoticon-0152-heart

That's excellent mate. Is it the 'Super 4s' that Durham run as part of their pathway? If it is, my son did that last year for the u12s. He played for their Inferno's side. Great experience for him.

Yeah, that is it, couldn't remember what it was called. He had one of the women coaches dealing with him and she said to my son at the end that he was "very coachable", which was nice to hear.

Great stuff, Durham provide a letter for the parents to give to the kids' schools as the games are during school time so they get a day off! We got to Evenwood, Stockton, Bishop Aukland, Greenside and a few other places as well as on the pitch at the Riverside. Parents might need a few days off work to go and watch him.

If its the same as last year they pick 4 squads of about 13 players and then play the games in the summer. Then they asked 30 players to go back at the end of the summer which they then select their County age group squad from. My son got asked back to the last 30 players but missed out on the County squad.

Yeah, they have told him that there is a game on aTuesday in early July, so will have to miss a day. If my son can't make any I am always available <laugh>
Think it will be the same format, so he will just have to work hard but more importantly enjoy it.
Shame about your son but they are still young enough to have another chance.

He's had a good start to the season. Played for the u15's last Monday @ Raby Castle and although bowled for a 4 ball duck by their spinner (think he was like a rabbit in the headlights) he then bowled a couple of tidy overs in a win. He returned there on the Wednesday for the u13's and had to retire when he got to 30 then again bowled another couple of Tuidy overs, again to win.
Yeaterday he played for the u19's against Crook, with a lot of them 6ft + (bearing in mind that he isn't 12 until late August). Didn't get to bat but when Crook were coasting to victory, requiring 6 off 6 overs, they give him the chance to bowl an over. He bowled well and they only took 3 off the first 5 balls, then in the sixth the batsmen went down the wicket, missed it but unfortunately so did the wicketkeeper, so they got a bye and he missed the chane of a wicket.
Tonight he played for the u13's again at Evenwood, again scoring 30 before retiring and then bowling 3 tidy overs, although wicket less again.
He has enjoyed his first sessions at Durham and I understand that they have a game at Stocksfield later thus month (he is in the Hawks team).

What a nice thread this has turned out to be ...

... chat forums can sometimes be spiteful and full of infantile rage but this shows just how decent people can be.

I don't often comment but it's great to see some of the small but perfectly formed stories.

First night with my new family. Unfortunately my lads are missing though. Not my weekend to have them.

My cousin's granddaughter Millie is doing well, having played for England under 15s last year, and now recently captained Man City's girls team. It seems a step down to me from her days playing for Sunderland, but there you go

That would be the Infernos, who lost the first game by 4 runs but I understand they won the second game by about that many.
Isaac plays for the Hawks, who lost the first game by 59 runs (he opened the bowling and bowled 2 overs for 12 runs, no wickets and then got 6 no, going in at number 10).
However, in the second game the Hawks batted first and scored around 150 (Isaac didn’t bat).
However, he opened the bowling again and after 2 singles he bowled one of the openers with a yorker, hitting his off stump and then next ball bowled the next lad (left hander so changed to round the wicket) off his pads. In his next over he had someone caught to achieve a wicket maiden. They the brought him back on when they were 9 down and he bowled the last lad out, middle stump, to finish with figures of 4 for 7. I was absolutely beaming with pride, thinking that 2 years ago he had no interest in playing and he didn’t want to go and play for his local club because "they will all be better than me". Fortunately he was persuaded to give it ago and after only 1 season of playing and I had the privilege of being there to watch him.
I understand that his next game is at Burnmoor on Thursday 5th June.
